Today, our students launched a fundraiser to help raise money for the Yellowjacket Theatre Company. Due to winter weather, we’ve had to cancel our student performance on Friday 1/24 because there won’t be time to coordinate ticket sales while planning to open on Thursday evening. In a short time, this has become a campus tradition, and sadly, we won’t be able to provide that for our students this year. This event usually brings in about $1,000 which, now, won’t be possible. Additionally, we provide every Elementary musical participant in our feeder pattern, every JH theatre student, and their families comp tickets to see our show. We lose revenue when we do this, but we think it is more important to foster a love of theatre in our community. As of right now, 20% of our ticket sales have been comp tickets… which means we rely on community sponsors and donations to pick up slack when we lack revenue from tickets.

Consider this our annual giving campaign: we need funds to offset the rising costs of production, feeding our students, and providing scholarships to attend National competitions. All of these things fall outside the purview of a well-supported district budget. Please consider donating… 100% of your donation goes to serve our students in future productions! The more money we have in the coffers, the more we can deliver on the standard that sets Alvin ISD theatre students apart as a state and national leader. Alvin ISD is one of the only districts in Texas to consistently be named as a Premier Community for Theatre Education by Texas Thespians, the Educational Theatre Association, and the Texas Educational Theatre Association… a huge honor and major distinction!
