The Amarillo Botanical Gardens

Our Prairie Gold Aspen, Populus tremuloides, are blooming. The fuzzy gray catkins are beautiful against our blue sky. This aspen is one we are trialing from the midwestern prairies of SE Nebraska. It is more adapted to heat, drought and humidity than its highland counterparts. We have been growing it for 4 years, it is now 14 feet tall and has impressed us with its adaptability.
