Our Story...
Welcome to Farmer’s Daughter Catering and Venues! Our story began in 1991 when we first found our acreage with a historic farm house and barn nearing 100 years in age. We took a huge leap of faith to move our family of six from our familiar city living to experience the country life. Within the next few years, the family worked together to remodel the farm house, build a new roof on the barn and make continuous improvements to beautify the grounds. The old chicken coop was even converted into living quarters, complete with a commercial kitchen, handicap accessible restrooms, lounge and dining, plus a large one-bedroom loft with private bath.
Meanwhile, our youngest of four children showed a strong interest in baking. Together we spent many hours in the kitchen making various meals using farm fresh foods and creating exquisite dessert presentations for small gatherings among family and friends. Thoughts of starting a family business were often discussed. After a few years of fine tuning our cooking skills and growing in expertise, we opened Farmer’s Daughter Catering in 2002 as a catering service for off-site events within the surrounding cities. Eventually our youngest would leave for college, but we were inspired to continue the catering business.
The following year, another child of ours got engaged and wanted to have their wedding ceremony and reception on the farm. With a wedding date set for 2004, we had just over a year to prepare for such an important occasion. We always opened our home to entertain, cook and provide libations for others, but not quite to this scale. It was our desire to not only make the event special for the bride and groom, but also create a memorable experience for all the guests. So we decided to acquire a seasonal tent for seating up to 300, and dedicate a few acres for entertaining. The installation of the tent created great excitement. Professional banquet supplies and catering equipment were then purchased along with tables and chairs. The whole family helped in one way or another with getting everything built and ready.
