The Duchess Conservatory & Salon

The Duchess Conservatory & Salon Hedonistic ritual, Southern hospitality, absinthe, music, a warm sense of well-being nested in a strange place, and an unsettling ceramic pig's head
(1)

A sentient house turned one hundred years old and its creaking wood and speaking pipes are surprisingly sociable. Two critters reside in it full-time but the doors are always open (figuratively speaking) for those who enjoy snuggling into an experience of the worldly and the otherworldly.

A dinner ♥️

I am an old house. A coal pen still stands in the basement even though only wood is still burned here in winter. These young critters who just moved in started me on social media, which hardly agrees with my constitution; alas, here we are. They frequently play music, which I take pleasure in resonating, and they keep erratic sleep schedules, and consume many altering substances, mostly alcohol, which they store among their crystal ware behind my most gorgeous original glass-windowed cabinets. They have hung many beautiful works of art on my sagging walls, which I do appreciate. They make me feel beautiful again. I am adorned with many large rugs to keep me warm in this snowy climate, and my floors are kept swept and mopped, my ceiling corners brushed free of cobwebs, my space used with love for critters to congregate in shelter from the cold.

Last week they took large old mushrooms from a jar in the closet and blended them with fruit and drank them and then giggled on the floor and went for a walk in the snow and came back red-cheeked and still laughing.

At this very moment they are listening to a Hank Williams record, their faces in their screens.
