Scammers are everywhere. As a small business owner, I am very careful when I agree to a rental contract. I check out basic info. like confirming the address is real, are they on social media, does their name pop up on Google, etc. I received a text request for a rental, which is not unusual, but it doesn't take long to realize their request is ridiculous. So once I finally force them to provide their name, address and email, I go to work to make sure they're legit. In this case, County Tax records show who actually bought the house in August and it wasn't this guy. The phone number came up under a name in LA and the first name is Rony, not Eric, with a different last name than he provided and it also lists all of the other names in this family that are known to be at the same address, none of which are this guys name. Then I just found a scam text I received one year ago and guess what?! The guy is using the same name. 🤬🤬 Anyway, be careful out there...I have no clue what he thinks he's going to get out of trying to scam me, but Strike 2 buddy...I'm still winning.
"Hi Eric. Checking back in. As I get scam requests more often than you think, I typically do a quick background check for my own safety before committing to a rental contract, so I'd like to confirm a couple things. The address you provided shows the home was just purchased a few weeks ago under other owner's names and the cell phone number shows a different family name as well. I'll need further explanation before I can proceed with the quote. Thanks!! "
