I would like to express my profound appreciation to the Hall Of Fame board of NYSSCA for choosing both Erik Nelson & myself Bill Nelson to be enshrined in the prestigious Hall of Fame this year! A father & son joining the fabled legends of our sport. I’m honored & humbled to be a part of along with my son, both of us enshrined together is even sweeter!

Along with us, we were joined by long time friends & fellow racers Tom Spencer & Jake Spraker!

When I started racing stock cars I be was 14 in 1960, who would have ever thought it would take me to the hallowed halls of the New York State Stock Car Association as an inducted member, but here we are, father & son, inducted members joining the hero’s I revered as a kid! I’m truly honored!

I would like to express my sincere thanks to Bonnie Mortensen & Ron Szczerba for the dedicated work they do for NYSSCA year in & year out! I want to thank all the voting members for our selection! We are truly thankful for all that you have done for us! So many to thank who have been with us along the way, if I start to name them individually I’ll undoubtedly omit someone for sure so you all know who you are & we undoubtedly thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We couldn’t have done it without you!

WHAT A NIGHT!

The air was hot & humid and so was Jack Lehner!
Double features were on tap & a full night of racing was scheduled including an on track “Meet & Great” which took away “hot laps”, since we were forced to replace some critical front axle parts, going racing without any laps to check it. Right out of the box it was fast! Real fast! From his 7th starting spot Jack moved ahead quickly as he tried to run down NASCAR Truck star Stewart Friesen who started on the pole position via the luck of the draw in the make up race, Jack couldn’t catch Stew & held on for a 2nd place finish. Any time you race at Fonda Speedway, Stew is the man you have to contend with, as he is one of the best in the business! Running 2nd to Stew is like a win! Jack has been real fast all season but luck hasn’t been on our best side but she was with us last night! It was a great race for us!

We finished 2nd in our
heat for the regular scheduled show, putting us in the redraw where we started 7th. Once again Jack worked his way towards the front one by one, he was in 2nd chasing the leader Cody Clark, both were running about the same lap times until Clark slowed due to a mechanical failure & Jack & Alex Yankowski got by Clark. On the ensuing restart they battled wheel to wheel until Jack was able to pull away for the win! Stewart Friesen finished 5th in the 2nd feature.

All in all it was a great night for the Nelson Racing #85 team!
