I met a real live princess last week ✨

I showed up at the Horse Haven Ranch on Friday in the pouring rain. And I'm talking 'pouring' on a level that Alaska doesn't usually see; 'pouring' that somehow thwarts every manufacturer's claims that something is waterproof and leaves you looking like you just got out of the shower. The kind of 'pouring' that you DO NOT want to happen on your wedding day.

Despite this, I was greeted by Jessica who had donned her Xtra-Tuffs and was beaming beneath a clear umbrella. When I commented on the monsoon that was playing out around us, she smiled, shrugged, and said, "It is what it is."

When I imagine a princess, beauty -- both inside and out -- is a trait that jumps to mind. But it's also joined by things like kindness, warmth, and total strength. Jessica embodies all of these. She stood there, gorgeous in her bridal gown, completely unswayed by the rain because she was just so happy to be marrying her one-and-only, Timothy. The forecast showed more rain for the rest of their day, but soon, as if in a show of honor, the skies parted and we squinted toward a blaring sun.

The best part? Jessica's grandma sent us a rainbow, too.

Jason + Samantha | June 25, 2022

About a year ago, I drove down to the Kenai Peninsula to photograph Samantha and Jason for their engagement. They wanted to be in a field of fireweed, they told me; as close to nature as they could get. I’ll never forget the love that these two had for just being outside and for each other.

Yesterday they were married. This time, Alaska decided to throw us a curveball in the form of wildfire smoke completely obscuring the sun and the distant mountains. Yet once again, it was so clear that Samantha and Jason were just purely in love with each other and the place they’ve chosen to live. They took the haziness with good graces. They kept the faith that it would be a beautiful day, and sure enough it was. The sun crept out right before their ceremony and fledged into a bluebird sky.

I really can’t think of a more perfect way to celebrate this couple, and I’m so happy that the Last Frontier rewarded them with this gem of a day. The grass was green, the barns were red, and the fireweed was blooming. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Brooke!

The most magical day with the Goutys.

Ethan and Yeraldy’s day was one of those where I pinched myself wondering if I was truly celebrating their wedding or in some perfect dream.

Their love was so insanely evident -- for each other, for their families, for Christ at the center of their marriage.

What a treat — so much more magic from their day to come!

And can we all just give a shoutout to Spirit — I mean, Sage — for running through the field at the perfect moment? is literally the coolest place.

If I had to describe Karina and Dave’s elopement day in one word I would say “chill”.

From flipping pancakes in the morning to their short and sweet ceremony beside Matanuska Glacier, they were so relaxed the entire day. I love days like this — no pressure of a strict timeline, a couple so completely in love and simply concerned about being married.

Karina and Dave, I am so thankful for you! I love that our paths crossed and that Joe and I were able to witness you two together. Your elopement day will forever be one of my favorites!

Be like Sydney and Jackson and GET YOUR ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS TAKEN IN ALASKA! 🏔

These two reached out months ago with a dream of taking their engagement photos in an epic location. We agreed on Hatcher Pass -- a spot that SCREAMS Alaska. I knew immediately that we found the right place when Sydney said she nearly cried as they were driving to meet me because it was just so beautiful. 😭😍

Within minutes of starting my tunes, Jackson was showing off the grooviest dance moves and I just knew this session was going to BLESS MY SOUL.

We narrowly avoided rolled ankles, chatted about our favorite spots for craft brews in both Alabama and around Alaska, and finished the night up with a few snowballs.

All in all, it was one of those sessions that filled my cup and made me never want to stop photographing couples. I would SO pack my bags and head to Alabama just to have the chance to spend more time with these two!

Sydney and Jackson -- I feel SO BLESSED that you found me. Enjoy the rest of your time in this incredible state!

Hards Wedding 2.0!

A little backstory — last August, Joe and I loaded up our camera gear on a boat and met up with Naomi and Pat and a few of their guests at a lodge on Resurrection Bay. Naomi donned her dress in the pouring rain under a tarp, we ran around the beach totally soaked, cooked steak and fresh halibut, and stayed up until 3:00am chatting around the bonfire. These clients turned into special friends very quickly, and we knew their big wedding the following summer would be a total freaking blast.

Fast-forward to this past Saturday, when we had the honor of witnessing their family and friends gather at Forget Me Not Nursery in Indian to celebrate their union. It was yet another beautiful and unforgettable day.

Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Hards — two of the most caring individuals I’ve ever met. What a joy to celebrate with these new friends once again.
