Life has been a little crazy the last several months. As many of you know, back in March my husband was diagnosed with a rare Kidney Cancer. Between his first surgery, baseball for the boys, and trips to Mayo, time has been limited for flowers.

Baseball is over and we have some time before his next surgery, so I’m doing flowers THIS WEEKEND!!

Pick up will be Friday, Saturday, Sunday!! I’ll be using local fresh cut flowers!!

It’s been a minute since I’ve been on here!

I wanted to share another adventure my sister and I have started! On September 28th I had a prophylactic double mastectomy due to family history and being positive for both the BRCA 1 & 2 mutation. During my recovery I was watching Hoda & Jenna (love them!) and Hoda shared we all have a story to share and our story could help someone else.

So here we are! We are here to tell our story, educate and have some fun with Mocktails!

Drum roll please….

48 bouquets and 25 wrapped bouquets later, $1,500 has been donated to Pockets of Hope! This is the biggest donation yet!! 🤩 I’m speechless! This is going to help so many people. Simply, thank you!!

I can’t thank you all enough for all the love and support! A HUGE thank you to .horticulture & for providing me the most beautiful flowers to work with! Not only are their flowers beautiful but so are they!!

It’s a big week, in many ways! 🤍

Because of the tremendous support and having the biggest bouquets orders of all time (45!), I’m starting bouquets tonight! The blooms from & .horticulture are incredible!!!

It’s also a big week personally! A couple months ago I shared that due to genetic history and being both BRCA 1 & 2 positive, I’ve chosen to have prophylactic surgeries to beat the odds.

After 10 years of annual mammograms and breast MRIs, today was my final MRI prior to my double mastectomy at the end of the month.

So many big feelings and emotions, but strength is one of them. After a dinner with my sister while taking her to radiation after her breast cancer diagnosis, I knew I had to take control. So thank you Lynn Sandquist for lighting the fire!

Doing flowers has always been therapeutic for me. This weekend’s flowers couldn’t have come at a better time! Being able to donate to Pockets of Hope has an extra special meaning this month!

I shared earlier that my next flower weekend would be BIG, so big that I’ve decided to take a day off from my “real” job to accommodate more orders!!

So when is it and where are proceeds going? My final flower weekend of the year will be SEPTEMBER 8 - 10! 🌸

I’m beyond excited to donate 100% of proceeds to Pockets of Hope ! Pockets of Hope is a non-profit providing mastectomy hoodies with drain pockets for those undergoing surgery. They also just started creating zip-up T-shirts for pediatric cancer patients to create easier port access. All for FREE and is 100% donation based!

So where does the BIG come in? I want this to be one of my largest donations! If you’d like a bouquet, please let me know! They make great centerpieces for your ISU/IOWA game! 😉

FLOWERS NEXT WEEKEND! ✨

Next weekend I’ll be doing my monthly flower bouquets! It’s my favorite time of year to do bouquet as I’ll be using freshly cut local flowers! Comment below or DM me if you’d like to be on the list and I’ll reach out to get details! ☺️

This month’s donations will go to FORCE: Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered. FORCE is a nonprofit that creates awareness, furthers research and care advocacy for hereditary cancer.

This is a personal one. Hereditary cancer is in my families genes. When I first found out I was BRCA 2 positive roughly 12 years ago, I saw it as a statistic. Roughly 4 years ago, I found out I’m also BRCA 1 positive. Again, I saw it as a statistic.

Fast forward to last May when my oldest sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was my reality check that it’s a matter of when vs. if.

This spring I became serious about taking control over my health and began the conversations for preventative/prophylactic surgeries. I had my first one in June and will be having my second one this Fall.

If you have a family history of breast and/or ovarian cancer, get to know your numbers. If you don’t know where to start or go, please reach out! Also, if you’re BRCA positive and you’re debating on what to do and want to talk to someone, I’m here for you!

For the last several years I’ve made Christmas greenery pots for my mom. I always loved making them in their garage and surprising her with what I came up with.

Today marks 5 months without Mom, so it’s only fitting I made her Christmas pot today! 🎄❤️

After much thought, I’ve decided to take time off from doing monthly bouquets during the Holidays! I’ve been working a lot on slowing down, letting the mind rest, and reflecting! And with the Holidays this year- I need all the help I can get!

✨September Flower Weekend Dates✨

How are we halfway through September already!? I will be doing bouquets the last weekend in September, with pick up being Friday the 30th or Sunday Oct 2nd.

September proceeds will be added to the August proceeds which raised over $500 for ! My goal is to be able to donate enough to cover the cost of TWO wigs!

✨BE BOLD BOUQUET✨

In May, my older sister, was diagnosed with breast cancer. In July she underwent a double mastectomy and has since began her chemo journey. When I say she’s a warrior, she without a doubt is a warrior who is standing up and saying “You messed with the wrong girl” !

Round 2 of chemo is completed for my sister! I can’t get over the amount of strength has! Be sure to follow along her journey and see for yourself the strength and courage she demonstrates!

It’s only fitting that my all time favorite arrangement goes to my mom! 🤍

As I stared at the arrangement my heart filled with joy knowing I was giving her this, but it also broke as I so badly just want to pick flowers with her one more time!

All the flowers are fresh from either Rose Farm, my parents backyard, or my pots at home! Nothing beats summertime flowers!

My Mom loved ! Two years ago, shortly after she was diagnosed, us girls and the little boys went up there with her to the Lego display! We loved every minute of it!

My mom was the reason BK Blooms was created! There are no words right now! I told her I would make her proud and continue to make people smile, just like she ALWAYS did!!

What Do You Need Today?

The reality of life is that there will be good days & hard days, and that’s ok!

Last month I shared that I started seeing a counselor roughly 18 months ago. Lately this has been the question she has asked me and it has helped me tremendously! 🤍

Last night I needed a date night with my husband! We got a sitter last minute and made it happen! I feel like a new person today!! 💕

As a reminder, June florals will be monthly subscription only. All proceeds for May & June will be going to National Alliance on Mental Illness - Iowa.

Take care of yourself (easier said than done, I know!) Ask yourself “What Do You Need” and follow that! Hug the ones you love and make sure you tell them that you love them! 💕

Whether it be creating a bouquet or filling planters on a deck, the amount of peace it brings is indescribable!

Yesterday I headed over to my mom’s to fill her deck planters as she watched and we chatted and laughed! It’s moments like yesterday that I’ll never forget!
