I needed to release some creative energy with a few dried floral bunches I had in my basement. I’m not great at saving and drying flowers but I will be making it a priority this year! It really does help with the mid winter slump. 💐

The arrangement is comprised of dried root beer hyssop, zinnias, mums, eucalyptus, plumosa fern, strawflower, safflower and delphinium.

Buckets of blooms make me so happy!! I can’t wait to share my flowers with everyone this year! We should have blooms starting in early May, fingers crossed!

Note to self: take more pictures of all my beautiful tall bearded irises 😍😍😍

I select the reblooming Iris varieties and they pump out bloom after bloom in late May to early June. They sort of hold me over as I wait for dahlias to arrive 🥰

I’m going to put out a little prediction that they will gain popularity in event design in the coming years. It’s just a little bit of a trick as to how to design with them. Perhaps I will do a video to demonstrate this year!

Rudbeckia is such a treasure to grow and use in floral design. There are so many varieties and in different colors as well. I’m looking forward to adding more to the farm this year! These photos feature Indian Summer and Goldstrum varieties. It can also be known as black eyed Susan. Rudbeckia is easy to grow, easy to manage and is a perennial workhorse. Not to mention extremely attractive to beneficial insects and pollinators. 🥰

I have been feverishly working on my farm planning for this growing season. In January us flower farmers in Wisconsin are already seed starting for bountiful spring harvests. One of the most coveted cool Spring blooms are ranunculus and anemones. This will be my third year growing them and with the best bed prep and location thus far. I have about 800 plants that will go outside into one of the hoops around early to mid March in hopes they will be blooming in time for Mother’s Day. But we prep, soak and pre-sprout them now.

Ranunculus and anemones thrive in cool weather and are tolerant to temperatures in the low 20s. As we know here in Wisconsin the weather can freeze or it can snow into March and April still. This can be remedied by planting them in a hoop or green house or giving them low tunnel coverage. Often you can cover them in a tunnel at night but open them up during the day.

I’m looking forward to the new use of our hoops and seeing these beauties again in all their glory 🥰🥰🥰

Caitlin’s Joy is an amazing cut dahlia to add to your collection. She is a bit of a chameleon in terms of her color. Changing from medium dark pink with some bright hues to deep raspberry with hints of a purple-mauve. This dahlia is extremely abundant with quick recovery between harvests. She would also put on a show if left to just bloom endlessly all season. I would also put her on the list as having great breeding qualities. She provides numerous tubers as well!

It’s time to spotlight a tried and true and terrific dahlia: IVANETTI! He can cast jewel tones ranging from dark ruby to deep plum. And I purposely shared Ivanetti in different bouquets and flower groupings so you can see just how well he gets along with others! This is a fantastic dahlia for an abundant display in your garden as well as tons of cut flowers. New dahlias are amazing but there are some varieties that are forever. 💜

Lakeview Peach Fuzz has a few different faces throughout the season like most dahlias. It takes on a deeper orange undertone early in the season and fades to a light golden peach later in the year. An early and heavy bloomer with great cut flowers on narrow but strong stems. I rely on LPF to fulfill my needs in this color group. A great addition to your collection!

High petal count. Perfect pink. Coralie has an almost luxury aura to her. Like maybe she is just a little too good for an average bouquet. She seems to elevate a design.

This neon beauty is Sea Electra! She has numerous billowy blooms on large, stout plants. A great cut dahlia but also very stunning in your garden and landscape. She is underrated for sure! What a gorgeous, vibrant variety!!

I’m going to be featuring some really great dahlias for you to consider in our tuber sale on January 5th, 2025 at 5:00pm CST! This is Valley Porcupine and appropriately named. The petals are thick and sturdy with very defined, sharp looking edges. This is a smaller dahlia and blooms very abundantly on the plant. It is also quick to recover a flush of blooms after cutting. Look for this dahlia to supply you must heavily in the late half of your growing season. A must grow cut dahlia AND a floriferous show off in the garden!

This blush beauty is Oreti Candy. We know how hard blush dahlias can be to find. This one will fulfill all of your blush dahlias needs. I now consider it a must-grow. It blooms early and continues flush after flush of flowering throughout the entire growing season. It is an excellent cut flower as well. Add this one to your wish list. ✅
