🚨🌱‼️ Major Plant Nerd Alert ‼️🌱🚨

Amorphophallus, any of y’all heard of it?! Also know as the corpse plant, due to the smell of the flower. The blooming of a corpse plant is a rare and special event, as most plants require seven to ten years to produce their first blooms, and bloom only every four to five years thereafter. Starting off as a corm, unlike other plants, the corpse plant only takes one form every cycle, sprouting out either a leaf or blooming with hundreds of flowers. Once having fully bloomed, it will only be open and smelling for a span of 3 days before it begins to close up and slowly decay over the following weeks.

I purchased some pretty expensive corms at the Philadelphia Flower Show about 10 years ago. Up until this year, I’ve only seen it produce leaves, but I couldn’t contain my excitement when I realized it was actually going to FLOWER this year!!! 🤩

On Monday, I decided to bring the plant inside from the sunroom so the cold temperatures didn’t mess up the flower. I left it inside all day yesterday while I was running errands. When we got home yesterday afternoon the entire house smelled horrific and I realized it was due to the flower on corpse plant. I quickly moved it back to the sunroom for the afternoon. After lighting a candle, the smell dissipated from the house relatively quickly.
