Tomorrow I (Ron!) have the good fortune to present Bob Mould at Elkton Music Hall. This legend is in the news a lot lately because he is from Minnesota of course like some recently famous folk. Husker Du is part of the great 80s rock renaissance in MN that included The Replacements and many others. Here is one of Bob's most gorgeous tunes from one of his solo LPs. We do still have tickets for this show! And our Arden fans have a special $5 discount that is still valid for the show. Only online though! Tickets at the door will be full price.

Mark Schatz is a two-time winner of the IBMA Bass Player of the Year Award and is best known for his contributions on some of the most iconic recordings in bluegrass by artists such as Tony Rice, Bela Fleck, John Hartford, Claire Lynch, Tim O’Brien, Sara Jarosz, and Nickel Creek. But Mark is also a master of the clawhammer banjo and is featured playing his own compositions on two solo projects on Rounder Records, BRAND NEW OLD TYME WAY and STEPPIN’ IN THE BOILER HOUSE. Mark is always ready to cut loose with some Southern Appalachian clogging and hambone, and his stagecraft was honed through a long association with the acclaimed Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble, for whom he still serves as Musical Director.

Bryan McDowell grew up in Western North Carolina, where he studied with legendary fiddler Arvil Freeman. His aptitude on multiple instruments was prodigious, leading him to take first prize in fiddle, mandolin, and guitar when he was just 18 years old at the prestigious Winfield Flatpicking Championship, a feat never to be replicated. He is a gifted singer, and did stints with Sierra Hull and Molly Tuttle.

In early 2020 Mark called on his friend, Bryan, to tour together as a duo. Live in Mark’s studio they recorded GRIT & POLISH, an acoustic tour de force that moves effortlessly from original fiddle tunes and songs to Louis Jordan Boogie Woogie and Bob Dylan. It garnered the #1 spot on the Folk DJ charts in June of 2021, and came in at #9 for the year!

October 4 Afrobeat Funk Concert in Arden! Kaleta & Super Yamba Band join us for a great night of music. I recently saw the Super Yamba Band on their own at LunÀtico in Brooklyn (the great bar restaurant venue of co-owner Richard Julian from Arden) and Dorinda and I loved them, but in Arden we also get the legendary guitarist singer Kaleta (from King Sunny Ade band and many others!) Brooklyn’s Kaleta & Super Yamba Band are fronted by Afrobeat and Juju veteran Leon Ligan-Majek a.k.a. Kaleta. The singer/guitarist from the West African country of Benin Republic lived his adolescent life in Lagos, Nigeria where Afrobeat was born. Kaleta's guitar chops earned him decades of touring and recording with Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Lauryn Hill and more. Kaleta got his start in the late 70s performing in church and was soon after picked up by iconic Juju master and world music pioneer King Sunny Ade. A few years later Fela Kuti came calling. Kaleta would go on to tour the world playing guitar for the King of Afrobeat in his storied band Egypt 80 through the 1980s and into the 1990s. Now based in New York City, Kaleta has been leading Super Yamba Band since 2017. Their debut album 'Mèdaho,' released by California indie label Ubiquity Records, draws on the group’s shared reverence for the raw, psychedelic sounds that captivated Kaleta as a music loving kid in 1970s Benin. Mèdaho means "big brother", "elder" or "teacher" and is dedicated to Kaleta's late brother Ligan-Ozavino Pascal who introduced him to funk and soul music at a very early age. The album was included on Bandcamp's “Best Albums of Summer 2019” list and two of the songs were chosen for the ABC/Hulu series High Fidelity staring Zoe Kravitz. They even prompted Action Bronson to stop his own show on VICELAND TV just so he could hear more Yamba. Afropop Worldwide reports “his James Brown grunts have got to be some of the best in the business!”
