One of the grandkids asked if burning the woods hurt the trees? (They are getting more and more involved and interested in land management. Thankfully, they just see it as our way of life like so many other landowners around here do.) Prescribed burning is a necessary element to our stewardship here at Quail Country Plantation. This practice stimulates growth and benefits wildlife habitat. It is a long awaited part of the journey, each year, for our family. And like us, in life, we all have to go through a fire to be made new!

A big thank you to Gene Crews & his family for celebrating his birthday with us a few weekends ago! Mr. Gene hosted his family at Quail Country Lodge for a weekend and they were able to enjoy the grounds, fellowship with each other, and a lot of good food! Happy Birthday, Mr. Gene!!

We are so thankful for the outpouring of calls, texts, and visits to check on us at Quail Country since Wednesday!

For those unaware, an EF2 Tornado came sweeping through some of the property Wednesday afternoon.

Our farm shop and equipment shed on Quail Country Road took a major blow, but all of that can be cleaned up and replaced! The tornado of 2017 and then Hurricane Michael in 2018 have made us clean-up pros. 😊

Quail Country Lodge and Pavillon were untouched during the storm and we will continue business as usual at both of those locations.

Power lines were down, but after the hard work of the power company& the lineman - power was restored on Saturday.

Please pray for two of our neighbor families who lost their homes. They were in their homes and survived with minor injuries - a true miracle! This storm system left it’s mark on many! 🙏

We would like to send a huge thank you to Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, Early County Sheriff’s Department, and Kevin Wilkins for all they did to help us. Of course a big thank you also goes to all the other first responders, the volunteer fire department, county personnel, EMC linemen and neighbors and family and so many others who came to give a helping hand! We are not sure who cleared the dirt road of numerous trees, but thank you! ❤️

While we knew Lucky was a perfectly healthy pup, we weren't sure if someone would appreciate him being a half-pint compared to his litter mates! A tragic family pet loss changed all of that for Lucky when the Bodrey Family started looking for a smaller spaniel to help heal their hearts. We could not have asked for a more beautiful day to celebrate the life of our dear Doc. We feel so blessed to have honored him on the land he loved so much. We sang his favorite hymns, read his favorite scriptures and heard how much others thought of him. But he would have been embarrassed by all of the attention because he was such a humble man! Thank you for every call, text, dish, hug, word, tear and prayer you have bestowed on our family. We feel as if God is comforting us through every one of your acts of kindness. Between the flocks of birds who's chatter filled the skies and the angelic voice of our own, Elizabeth Brooks, that filled our lawn, there is no doubt Doc is rejoicing in Heaven with our Lord, Jesus Christ.
