Please welcome to the CVPA School staff, Mr. José Cubela!
José Antonio Cubela, raised in Miami, Florida, received an Associate in Arts with honors from Miami Dade Community College. In 2002, Mr. Cubela graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. At Texas Christian University, Mr. Cubela graduated with a Master of Music in Piano Performance in 2004.
Mr. Cubela has been an adjudicator for the DMTA, Fort Worth Music Teachers’ Association, MCMTA, National Federation of Music Clubs-Junior Festival, Piano Forum, Steinway Young Artist Competition and Weatherford MTA piano competitions and festivals, and the Memphis International Piano Festival and Competition. He was the President of the Fort Worth Music Teachers’ Association between 2015-2017. In addition to being active in several organizations, he was one of the performing artists for the Van Cliburn Foundation’s Musical Awakenings Education Programs, also known as Cliburn in the Classroom. He was professor of primary and secondary piano at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth and Tarrant County Community College, NE campus. Many of Mr. Cubela’s piano students have won piano competitions and have been accepted to prestigious universities around the U.S.A pursuing degrees in music. Currently, Mr. Cubela was the piano teacher at Gunn Fine Arts Dual Language Academy and is one of the founding directors of the Fanfare Piano Festival for the Arlington ISD.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Cubela is an active performer both as a soloist and collaborative pianist. In the summer of 2017, He spent six weeks adjudicating and working with students and their teachers under the auspices of the International Piano Performance Committee in Taiwan. Mr. Cubela performed at the Conservatório de Música de Águeda and Centro de Artes de Águeda in Portugal with colleague Doris Gameiro. He also performed at the Museu do Traje in São Brás de Alportel and Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes in Portimão, Portugal with colleagues Doris Gameiro and Svetlana Martins(Bakushina). In April 2023, Mr. Cubela collaborated with Grammy, Emmy and Tony nominated choreographer Lars Lubovitch for the Bruce Wood Dance Company’s Gala at the Moody Performance Hall in Dallas. Finally, he recorded with Alexander Kerr, Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony and David Cooper, Principle Horn of the Chicago Symphony in collaboration with East Dallas Christian Church Chancel Choir under the direction of Keith Critcher. The recording was released at the beginning of 2020.

To celebrate the upcoming school year, the CVPA School is doing Teacher Spotlights this month!
This week we highlight Mrs. Brianna Miller, our Modern/ Contemporary Dance teacher!
Originally from New York, Mrs. Miller holds her BFA in Ballet from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and MA in Dance Education from the University of Northern Colorado. She has been honored to both study and perform with such companies as the Joffrey Ballet School and the Orange County Ballet Theatre. She has also had the pleasure of performing for the Walt Disney Company and has choreographed and performed for Club Med’s Cancun Yucatan resort.
Mrs. Miller's choreography has been seen at French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts, Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts, Linden Grove Theatre. Co., and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, among others; she has served as a judge and teacher for various dance teams throughout the DFW area.
Mrs. Miller is currently working on her doctorate in Instructional Design and looks forward to a long career of empowering the next generation of dancers as they move forward in their performing and personal careers.

Our Spotlight this week is Joe Strohl, Musical Instrument Repair!
Joe Strohl helped originate the Musical instrument Repair program for Arlington ISD. He has been in repair for over 25 years. He gives clinics for band directors all over Texas. As a member of the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians (NAPBIRT) Joe has given local and national clinics for other repair technicians.
Joe is a certified Strabinger Flute Technician, Yamaha Warranty Repair technician, and Instructs and certifies technicians for Music and Arts. Joe studied music at the University of New Mexico before finishing his degree at the University of North Texas. He enjoys cooking and spending time with his wife and 2 children.

Our Spotlight this week is on Visual Art teacher, Michael Bruno!
Mr. Bruno is a multifaceted visual artist, photographer, and educational professional with over 20 years of extensive experience as a fine arts teacher with both junior and senior high school students. He attended the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where he began classical training in drawing, painting, and ceramics. He went on to major in fine art and illustration at Texas A&M, Commerce, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Arlington. Michael received his Advanced Placement certification from TCU and recently obtained his IB diploma from the International Baccalaureate Organization. He is a practicing artist with expertise in hands-on teaching in a variety of mediums which includes beginning and advanced levels of drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, photography, and graphic design. His love of teaching is felt throughout the school community and within his classes. His students leave being not only college-ready but having a greater cultural awareness and with a skill set that includes both the mastery of visual art techniques and a life-long love for the Arts.

To celebrate the upcoming school year, the CVPA School is doing Teacher Spotlights this month!
Our first Teacher Spotlight is Toni Worley, Piano and AP Music Theory teacher.
Mrs. Worley has a music education and piano degree from the University of North Texas, graduate work from Texas Woman’s University and Texas Christian University and has been teaching since 1974. She came to Arlington in 1981 and began teaching choral music at Young Junior High for 4 years, and Lamar High School for 35 years. Toni is a member of TMEA, TCDA, and ACDA. She was awarded the CVPA Teacher of the Year, an AWARE Foundation award, Who’s Who of American Teachers, Honorary Texas PTA Life Membership and the Certificate of Merit for Outstanding American Teachers.
When she is not busy teaching or keeping up with her family, she gives of her time as an accompanist, accompanying Region concerts, community events, UIL contests, and her church orchestra. She enjoys working with choirs, adjudicating and presenting at music conferences.
Toni Worley LOVES teaching, and believes her greatest joy is in inspiring her students to create and love music!
