Arlington's cherished outdoor performance space will once again play host to great shows this summer. The Lubber Run Amphitheater Foundation was created in 2011 with donations to ensure that the amphitheater would continue to exist. We work alongside Arlington County Cultural Affairs to funding various activities and shows over the years. This year, 2022, we invested in the following:

-A grant to

the 3 theater groups to pay for the royalty fees for to be
able to perform Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat
-The design and printing of the Guitar Fan give-away
-The ice cream social opening night for Joseph and the Amazing
Technicolor Dream Coat (early August)

From 2011-2021 LRAF funded:

-The 2019 50th year celebration
-A $100 appreciation stipend gifted to all 25 performers from 2019 to assist them during the COVID shut-down of 2020
-Multiple performances, specifically shows for kids, and co-funded various evening performances
-Many Ice cream socials
-The children's clay art workshop after the LRAF-funded animal show including free pizza
-Guitar/schedule fans most years since 2011

LRAF thanks neighborhood lawyers for setting up the 501c3 pro bono and keeping us up to date. Thank you to all the volunteers and
to ALL who have and continue to contribute! Please Note: As a venue programmed and managed by Arlington County, Lubber Run Amphitheater Concerts may be cancelled due to inclement weather on relatively short notice, in accordance with the County’s public safety procedures. For the most up-to-date information on weather-related cancellation of postponement, please visit ArlingtonArts.org or the ArlingtonArts page.

Tonight, Saturday, July 27 at 8 pm at the Lubber Run Amphitheater performing live
- Daryl Davis!

Daryl Davis is an American R&B and blues musician and activist. Known for his energetic style of boogie-woogie piano, Davis has played with such musicians as Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, B. B. King, and Bruce Hornsby.

Davis absorbed the style of blues musicians from the Mississippi Delta who had migrated north. In 1980, he earned a bachelor of music degree from Howard University, where he was a member of the Howard University Choir and Jazz Vocal Ensemble. Davis "was mentored by legendary pianists Pinetop Perkins and Johnnie Johnson, who both claimed him as their godson and praised his ability to master a piano style that was popular long before he was born", according to his Kennedy Center profile.

Davis has frequently played backup for Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis. He was a friend of Muddy Waters and played piano in The Legendary Blues Band. Davis has also performed with blues icon B. B. King. He has played with artists such as Elvis Presley's Jordanaires, The Platters, The Drifters, The Coasters, Bo Diddley, Percy Sledge, and Sam Moore (of Sam & Dave).

He was awarded "Best Traditional Blues/R&B Instrumentalist" at the 2009 Washington Area Music Awards. For several years, Davis served as artistic director of the Centrum Acoustic Blues Festival.

"Davis' piano work impresses with his winning combination of technique and abandon, and his vocals are strong and assured", wrote a reviewer in Living Blues Magazine.

Time sure flies! The Summer of 1969 featured the first moon landing by US astronauts, the Woodstock Music and Art Festival and also significantly - the grand opening of the brand new Lubber Run Amphitheater!

This Friday marks the 55th anniversary of the official dedication ceremony for "the new Lubber Run Amphitheatre", which took place on July 19, 1969.

At the time, the dedication event was reported in the local Northern Virginia newspapers. According to news reports at that time in the Northern Virginia Sun, the Navy Band was scheduled to play at 7:30pm, followed by the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps at 8:00pm, and then the Arlington Theatre Associates Balladeers, a "well-known folk group".
