In this Arlington Art Truck project, you will enjoy testing your knowledge in this colorful carnival-like bag toss game where you will match bean bags of questionable waste with the proper vessel with which to dispose of it. Match and toss bean bags with images of cotton swabs, dental floss, cat litter, human waste, toilet paper, cigarette butts, “flushable” wipes, etc. with the proper disposal vessel: sink, toilet, trash can or the food scraps collection bin. Have fun! Learn something important! Learn how household waste impacts the County’s wastewater collection and treatment systems and how you can help.
The community partner for this project is the Water Pollution Control Plant. Located in South Arlington, the Water Pollution Control Plant treats 23 million gallons of wastewater each day from residences and businesses. The plant’s mission is to safely and economically process wastewater to protect the environment: especially Four Mile Run, the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. Future upgrades will focus on improving solids handling and resource recovery, while at the same time reducing the County’s reliance on fossil fuels.
SPECIAL EDITION! Come by foot, bike or car! Hang out! Great people watching! “Let it FLOW!” by artist Scott Pennington - Saturday, October 5 – 10-2pm - Spoke 'n' Word: W&OD Bike Trail Takeover, with Arlington Public Library, Bike Circle on north side of Columbia Pike and W & OD Trail (Between Arlington Mill Community Center and the Barcroft Shopping Center-- closest to 4821 Columbia Pike.) With us will be Arlington Transportation Dept where you can share your feedback on the Columbia Pike Bike Blvd and operating near us are two food trucks: Blanca’s Snow Cones and El Chochi (Tacos, Cachetes, Tortas, Burritos), across the street is Studio Pause and a great Goodwill for fun shopping! What more can you ask for?

We congratulate American landscape designer, artist, and educator Walter Hood for receiving the National Building Museum's 2024 Vincent Scully Prize. The Vincent Scully Prize, established in 1999, recognizes exemplary practice, scholarship or criticism in architecture, historic preservation and urban design.
Arlington County, Virginia, is honored to feature a major Walter Hood project in our Public Art Collection.
We encourage the public to visit John Robinson, Jr. Town Square (FREED), a Hood Studio design that brings recognition to the history and community of historically Black Green Valley and its tie to Freedman’s Village, a community for escaped enslaved African Americans and free persons established at the end of the Civil War on property that later became home to the Pentagon and Arlington Cemetery.
Arlington County’s Neighborhood Services Division of Community, Planning, Housing and Development managed the project in partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Department of Environmental Services, and Arlington Economic Development’s Public Art Program. The project was supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts’ Our Town program. Other partners include the Arlington Community Foundation.
