What a priviledge it was to support this wonderful organization again in planning its annual gala, which had a special guest this year receiving its Sizanani Award. Photo by Ashlee Wilcox Photography

We were truly honored to have Lawrence O'Donnell present the Sizanani Award to Dr. Anthony Fauci at our annual gala on Saturday. Congratulations, Dr. Fauci, and thank you for your extraordinary work in the fight to protect children's health in the global battle with HIV and AIDS.

#2004. At our wedding, for the tea ceremony & cocktail hour, I changed into a traditional Chinese kwa/kua. I found out years later that my father-in-law thought I was a waitress. Yeah. The kwa is a 2-piece where the skirt has a draw string top. It was so comfortable I didn't want to put my white dress back on! Happy to us!

FACTS
- Events in Washington, DC bring in over $1 billion in estimated tax revenue annually to the city.
- Currently, DC is actively losing events to Virginia, Maryland, and other states.
- Events need more time to plan: i.e. if the permissible capacity of restaurants changed tomorrow, establishments would be able to handle and manage changes easier than the events community. Events need more runway to plan.
- Increased capacity at venues is the starting point to get the whole industry back to work.
- The DC event industry is READY and WILLING to do whatever we have to move on to the next steps.

HOW TO DO THIS SAFELY
- The events industry is prepared to re-open while following all COVID-19 compliance guidelines from the city.
- Most venues, planning/producing companies, and catering companies have a COVID compliance officer on staff.
- Venues have made adaptations of their facilities to accommodate reopening guidelines.
- All vendors have adapted to accommodate COVID-19 compliance guidelines.
- The events industry is inherently creative and will introduce event adaptations to fit the new guidelines.

Just found this article we had contributed to back in early summer. Many of the ideas here from me and other wedding planners still hold true on what to consider if your wedding plans are affected by Covid.

Wedding postponement wine glasses. Decorative protective masks. These are signs of our COVID-19 pandemic-tainted times. What to do about the already planned wedding? Postpone? Cancel? Intimate ceremonies — immediate family only — with the larger celebration postponed are increasingly popular. Ho...

. This campaign has provided an introspective opportunity for me to revisit what I like most about corporate events. I enjoy the challenge of taking an event concept and weaving it throughout the event for our clients - even in small opportunities like a custom cocktail napkin with a drink recipe, tying in with the "sharing" concept. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With a workforce of 12 million people in the US, many of whom are independent contractors and micro businesses, the live events industry could use your support to stay afloat. We can't wait to get back to helping our clients make new connections & reinforce existing ones.

. You know what I miss most about social events? Being a part of our clients' biggest celebrations like this 50th birthday party last summer - the biggest smiles, warmest hugs, hearty laughs, buzz of conversations. I miss the energy! The events industry, made up of thousands of micro and small businesses, has been hit particularly hard globally due to this pandemic - first ones to shut down and the last ones to come back. Imagine a year's planned revenue wiped away. We can't wait to get back to the business of celebrations! Photo: Kurstin Roe Photography⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
