American Royal’s barbecue will move to the Truman Sports Complex this year

American Royal’s barbecue will move to the Truman Sports Complex this year

Billed as the world’s largest barbecue contest, the World Series of Barbecue will be able to get even bigger when the American Royal moves it to the Truman Sports Complex in October. Teams were being turned away because of space limitations in and around the American Royal Complex.

After waiting and messages being left with the Offseason rental committee at the location we previously used and were hoping to have the 2014 event at, we have not gotten any response with availability, price or information. so as of right now, we are going to have to look into a NEW location and shoot for the 2015 season to hold the Meats and Motors Cook-off and Relay for Life Fundraiser.

The winner is guaranteed a minimum of:

Our good friend Sid Smith passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 16, 2013. Sid was responsible for the stage, sound and entertainment for the Apple & BBQ Cook-Off Festival which helped make the Festival such a success. Sid and his wife Susie have been an integral part of the Festival right from the beginning. A business owner, active in the community and friend, Sid will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences to Susie and family.

Memorial Service for Sid will be Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:00am at the First Baptist Church of Hart. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. An additional Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 12:00pm at Eagle Park in Eagle, MI.

We are pleased to announce that the GLBBQA TOY leader on October 7th will be invited to attend the USA Barbecue Championship in Laughlin Nevada!! You will get a free room at the Hotel and free entry into the event.

We will have more details, but we do know that the prize pool is $100,000 and the GC will win a 2014 Chevy Full size Pickup.

It is with great displeasure to announce that the 2013 Armada Meats and Motors has been Canceled. The Armada Fair Board voted on January 7th whether to continue the event. After a lengthy discussion it was voted and turned down to continue the event at this time. Thank You to all the organizations, teams, individual participants for making the event a success in the past. There is other interest however in another organization to take over the event in 2014, so please stay tuned in the future. *2013 Armada Meats and Motors Committee*
