This sharing of music that catches my ear, or strikes a nerve is starting to be fun. Here is a complete curve ball that I didn't think that I would share with this audience, but here goes.
John Williams.....need I say more. Immediately your mind starts humming those iconic movie soundtracks like Star Wars, E.T. Jaws, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter. He is regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time.
There used to be a channel on the dial on SiriusXM called Cinemagic, now it is only available online on their website. Anyways, sometimes I will tune into this channel and let my mind wander off into the movie that the song is from, even if I haven't seen the movie, I like to imagine what it is like based on the way the music is going.
I am a fan of all types of music, yes, even classical, I attribute that mostly to my 7 years of band in middle and high school. I also attribute that to my grandparents. When I would go over to their house, they would have classical music on, when I would ride in the car with them when I was little, classical music it was. I don't know if it contributed to, but may have played a hand into the way I listen to music. I will usually listen to the instrumentation of a piece of music first, before lyrics, if there is any. If you focus on it, it can really influence your attitude of the song, but also your feeling, if it happens to be part of a scene in a movie.
So that brings me back around to movies, and John Williams. I came across this video, that was a "digital feature" highlighting his work on episode 9 of Star Wars - The Rise of Skywalker. It is absolutely amazing how he can continue to add on to a movie franchise that has gone on now for over 4 decades. Some of the highlights of the piece include Mark Hamill was on the sound stage when they were recording. Also, I didn't realize it, but the scene where Luke lifts the X-wing out of the water in episode 9, is also the same music when Yoda did the same thing for Luke in Episode 5. There are also some other touching parts that I won't spoil, go check it out, it gave me a little bit of goosebumps.
As one of the comments put it "You can say what u want about the movies... good or bad... John Williams never let us down not one bit. An absolute musical legend". I concur!
Let me know what you think!
