Prepping for a wedding next weekend and this song came up while digging and organizing. I forgot how hysterical the video is with all the pro athletes and some classic Sports Center anchors! Enjoy this look into what it took to make that song. Still a banger to me, and I am definitely going to be hitting play on this song next weekend!

Man, it has been a minute, but I am still out here, hi everyone! Just wanted to take a minute to say Happy Birthday 🎂 in heaven to the Godfather of House Music, Frankie Knuckles! I went to Chicago last August and I had to stop by the area where it all started and snapped this picture! Here is to Frankie! 🍻

If my peeps reading this don't already know, I am quite the fan of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. They are on a break right now in preparation for the new season, but a few weeks ago they had Joe Walsh sit in with this band for the whole week. Side story, sorry ADD, Jon Batiste, which I am also a huge fan of, decided to leave The Late Show to work on his own music and follow up on his very successful last album. They announced this right before the break and they also said that Louis Cato will be taking over as band leader. This rendition that they did of Funk 49 is smoking!! I am a sucker for a horn section and to hear this version with horns is fantastic! I have listened to this several times now. I look forward to seeing how this band goes along with the new role and new name.

Last night I went to my first ever Dave Matthew’s Band concert. After listening to their music for right around 30 yrs now and hearing about how good they were as a LIVE band, I finally got to experience it and it lived up to the hype. Hopefully the next one will be a little bit sooner! Cheers to DMB! 🍻 What is your favorite DMB song?

It has been a hot minute since I have shared some music with all of my peeps.

Continuing on with it, this time I want to highlight the British artist that is Jessie Ware! If you haven't heard of her, think the smooth vocals of Sade, mixed with the electronica of Róisín Murphy and the pop and disco of Kylie Minogue. Extra credit: I will also reference Basia, if you know that artist, internet points awarded to you! One of the genre's that I thought was an interesting name was sophisti-pop. According to Wikipedia, it " incorporated elements of jazz, soul, and pop". That pretty much sums up Jessie Ware, which she is a part of that list seen here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sophisti-pop_artists

I first heard on of course, you guessed it, BBC Radio 1. The track was called 110%, produced with the help of Julio Bashmore, search him out if you don't know his work he has some good stuff! This track was later renamed to "If You're Never Gonna Move". This lead to the release of her first album, "Devotion". Which I promptly picked up. This lead to me looking forward to seeing her as part of the Mountain Oasis Music Festival in 2013. I got there early and was on the rail for her show in the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. Jessie, if you are reading this, I was the one wearing the light up shirt on stage left and you pointed it out and thought it was pretty cool. I then saw her a second time that night when she paired up with my fave, Disclosure in the Civic Center arena right next door. I was also on the rail for that one.

I have to be honest now. After Devotion, I didn't pay much attention to her follow up albums, Tough Love and Glasshouse. (I promise to go back and do some homework) Her latest album though has corralled me back in. It happened the other night when she was on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. That performance is here: https://youtu.be/f9zKQQwWozA. I am sharing the one she posted from her performance on the The Graham Norton Show. I have to say that listening to the album when I can, it is AWESOME! I love the mix of soul, electronica and pop-disco.

So I just wanted to highlight and say thank you to Jessie Ware for the work she has done and the amazing music she has put out over the last 12 years.

Well, this was definitely something different. This has to be the earliest I think I’ve ever DJ’d. My set was from 5-7 AM, a sunrise set. I played what I like to refer to as my “House Music and Chill” style set. I was at about 117ish bpm to start and ended at 105.

My thought is that this would be a good either wind down, or wake up mix, depending on where all of the happy campers were at in their adventure. 😆

Let me know what you think.

Cheers and Enjoy! 🌅🏕🔊

This sharing of music that catches my ear, or strikes a nerve is starting to be fun. Here is a complete curve ball that I didn't think that I would share with this audience, but here goes.

John Williams.....need I say more. Immediately your mind starts humming those iconic movie soundtracks like Star Wars, E.T. Jaws, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter. He is regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time.

There used to be a channel on the dial on SiriusXM called Cinemagic, now it is only available online on their website. Anyways, sometimes I will tune into this channel and let my mind wander off into the movie that the song is from, even if I haven't seen the movie, I like to imagine what it is like based on the way the music is going.

I am a fan of all types of music, yes, even classical, I attribute that mostly to my 7 years of band in middle and high school. I also attribute that to my grandparents. When I would go over to their house, they would have classical music on, when I would ride in the car with them when I was little, classical music it was. I don't know if it contributed to, but may have played a hand into the way I listen to music. I will usually listen to the instrumentation of a piece of music first, before lyrics, if there is any. If you focus on it, it can really influence your attitude of the song, but also your feeling, if it happens to be part of a scene in a movie.

So that brings me back around to movies, and John Williams. I came across this video, that was a "digital feature" highlighting his work on episode 9 of Star Wars - The Rise of Skywalker. It is absolutely amazing how he can continue to add on to a movie franchise that has gone on now for over 4 decades. Some of the highlights of the piece include Mark Hamill was on the sound stage when they were recording. Also, I didn't realize it, but the scene where Luke lifts the X-wing out of the water in episode 9, is also the same music when Yoda did the same thing for Luke in Episode 5. There are also some other touching parts that I won't spoil, go check it out, it gave me a little bit of goosebumps.

As one of the comments put it "You can say what u want about the movies... good or bad... John Williams never let us down not one bit. An absolute musical legend". I concur!

Continuing in my music sharing, time for a story.

In my weekly music discovery, one of my go-tos is BBC Radio 1. Every Friday they play a metric ton (we have to keep proper measurements here here since it is the UK) of dance music and it really helps me power through my Friday afternoon.

I heard a song that caught my ear and didn't let go, it was Big Love by Matrefakt. It featured samples of the the famous Fleetwood Mac song of the same name. Now I know remixing classics like this is risky in some peoples eyes because they could ruin a classic. In my opinion, this song did not do that. I thought to myself, this tune is HOT and where can I get my hands on it. Well, searching high and low, no such luck yet. I will have to keep a watch out. However, in my searches, I did find a remix of Big Love that I did not expect. This song was actually remixed by Fleetwood Mac themselves! Then released on the Deluxe version of their Tango in the Night album in 1987. To my shock I don't think it is that bad, but it definitely fits the sound that came out of late 80's dance music. So with that said, I thought I would share! Here you go, enjoy! Let me know what you think about it.
