Thank you all for your messages, texts and loving thoughts. Thank you Carla for not giving up and spreading the word.
Yes, my son Josh & I are safe. My house has no damage worth mentioning - all of which is a major miracle, considering the destruction all around us. The trees that did fall on my property fell away from my house. My neighborhood community has been quite the haven; although some homes took quite a beating. Neighbors helping each other, sharing what we had & checking on each other. Those who could, jumped right in to chainsaw trees blocking roads, homes, etc.
Even thought we had no lights, water, cell or land phone, internet, etc...none of that matters. I am so blessed. Waking in the morning lying in bed looking out the window, I am so grateful to be alive & have a bed to sleep in, a window to look out of, etc. How surreal it all seems. Can't wrap my head around it all. Probably won't for a very long time.
We had no power or any services until yesterday eve. I’m glad we were not able to see the tv images until now…no wonder my family and friends were frantic to find out how we were. My tiny Panasonic transistor radio was our only link to the situation around us. (That radio is so old that it still has grains of Jones Beach sand inside it). I Heart Radio, the only station I could access, was/is a blessing to those seeking and/or offering assistance. I elect them #1 for connecting people, saving lives and keeping us in the know. Everything from where to get water, rescue, oxygen, etc, or find out if loved ones were safe. That's all they do - take and exchange information.
Armies of angel helpers have come from all over the country and beyond to help. How awesome. When trucks, autos, tractors, cannot not reach people, and helicopters cannot land, teams of mules were put to the task.
So many businesses that still exist and could help are doing just that. Amazing how they have come together to offer supplies, assistance, information and food; hot meals and extras to take to others, no questions asked.
To all of you that reached out to me - it means the world to me. Truly, it does. You all mean the world to me, truly, you do.
