A new year has begun, and the cold has come!
🥶
Our show season generally experiences a slower schedule this time of year, but we’ve worked to secure some really exciting ones. We’re lucky to host a variety of our favorite genres this month. From experimental to shoegaze, Daikaiju, death metal, to classic country! Yes country! Did you know before 2020 static age used to host two steppin’ country shows? Since then the scenes have shifted as they do, and real down home country became less heard in this space, we’re stoked to have it back, in here there’s plenty of room for dancin’ or head bangin’!

Night 1 of our twenty year celebration was a certified banger with more fire to follow it up tonight!

We were lucky to have our friend in the shop taking the most beautiful photos that captured the truest essence of our space and community.

We bit off more than we could chew with the mystery totes and as such, have pivoted the silent auction into a combination of online and in-store opportunities. Online auctions will begin on Sunday and run for 2 weeks until midnight on Dec 14, so stay tuned on that! We’ve carefully crafted these with piles of our favorite albums. This auction is our way of sharing our favorites with you and fundraising to sustain static age!

Night 2 is about to begin! If you can’t make it in person be sure to follow alongside our livestream via the YouTube link in our bio. And we’ve been asking a $20 suggested entry, if you feel inclined to donate from afar, the link the our go fund me is in our bio and on our website.

Shoutout to for hosting our livestream page for one whole year now!

The time has come!

Celebrate this Friday & Saturday with us and some of our favorite artists.

(We’re about as prepared as we can be after planning this in only a few weeks time on a hurricane budget!)

Update on RSD Black Friday releases:
• due to financial losses related to hurricane Helene we were unable to stock this years RSD Black Friday releases…instead, this year we are offering discounts and sales on select items in store!
• we emptied thousands of LPs out of our river spot record truck into the shop. So many Jesse had to build 6 more racks and that still doesn’t hold them all. Come browse the heat today 12-6

Our collective capacity for self care has been irregularly shifting with each new day as we recover from Helene. One thing we can count on is the quality of music that the remainder of November has in store for us. If you’re familiar with these bands then you already know! And if you’re unfamiliar with any of these bands we have provided listen links on our website — linked in bio. We hope these shows bring some joy to our community!

Thanks to the bands themselves for promoting! And many of them are donating their proceeds to our shop and others in need of financial support. 💖

Amongst recovering from Helene please make time for self care in whichever ways fulfill your needs.

Halloween begins on the block this eve with our favorite Gabber bbys who are hosting this rave as a fundraiser to help sustain Static Age after losing our storage space and a month of sales to Helene.

We understand most people have been out of work for a month, so along with this being a benefit show, the cover cost is also now pay what you can with no one turned away for lack of funds. May all who Gabber come Gabber for the sake of our souls.

The way artists have shown up for us is beyond incredible and we are so grateful.

This Gabber Rave is a welcome treat to release the steam and move our feet.

Like most Asheville small businesses, right now Static Age Records and Loft are facing an uncertain future.

After Hurricane Helene left, we were lucky to find that our downtown spaces were dry, and our neighbors were alright as well. Also, as luck would have it, our local WiFi provider Skyrunner came back quickly, as did our power. We opened our doors to the community as a power and WiFi hub, with free hot food and resource sharing. The outpour of volunteer support to keep our spaces open and to aid the devastated region has been inspiring.

This business has always been pretty DIY, with walls moved, built, and rebuilt, using and reusing recycled material all while hosting thousands of bands from all over the world. Financially, we keep things afloat and have created jobs in the process. Improvements made possible by COVID relief loans have resulted in a lot of growth as a venue, retail space, and facilitated an expansion next door with a bar and kitchen. At the point when the storm hit, we had just paid off the patio permit and big chunks of our loans, which left us in a particularly vulnerable place to be without income for the better part of a month.

As we transition out of utilizing our space for mutual aid resource connection and supply distribution, we face financial realities that are not ideal. Our lost revenue at two businesses has left us in a state where we cannot afford rent for much longer, neither can we afford the payroll costs to rehire staff.

At this stage of Helene recovery, we are reaching out for community aid to help us reach the goal of $85,000. This amount will allow us to pay rent and bills, return to our regular hours at both spaces, continue our food program, as well as rehire and pay lost wages to our staff.

We believe in the healing power of music and with this aid, we can move forward to keep our doors open, bring quality entertainment to our community, and as we will continue to use our space for benefit shows that help fund numerous local, regional, and global aid efforts.

We appreciate all the volunteer and financial support we have received, past, present, and future! Together we can rebuild, recover, and restore.

We heard your calls, everyone hoped this would still happen, and with the return of working toilets to downtown Asheville, we can ready our space for live music again. Just in time for this certified banger!! Ready for the loudness and the rowdiness to lift our spirits!

PLEASE NOTE: The curfew remains at 11pm, so we’ll be starting this and all our shows at 6/7pm until further notice.

The history of Puerto Rican garage-punks Davila 666 began nearly 20 years ago. It’s very cool they are playing here at our record shop in Asheville. The band went on hiatus for seven years, during which time the members worked on other projects. Dávila 666’s sound has been described as a mix of punk and noise-pop, with Spanish-language lyrics, tambourines, and gang vocals. The band reunited in 2019 and is now about to be playing Static Age!

The Miami based band, Las Nubes has “built a catalog defined by devastating pop, pulsing drums and refracting clouds of shoegaze. Spanning over several languages, their lyrics address the emotional truths of being a person— treating the mundanity of everyday life with the same poetic reverence as the big and dramatic moments, relationships and people that shape our lives.” - Noisescape Magazine.
Multi-instrumental artists Ale Campos and Emile Milgrim formed Las Nubes in 2014 and are no strangers to the intense highs and lows of living and making art in Florida. In fact, South Florida’s erratic climate —in both the weather sense and the political sense —is baked into their music.

We’re so grateful to be capable of hosting this show!

🍟 - also there will be free hot food available!

Truly, the decision to host live music again has been a difficult road to navigate. Questions of how to make it happen without running water, and the social concern of wanting to remain focused on mutual aid relief efforts. However, the reality of how we will pay our bills to keep Static Age open has become a real concern.

As luck would have it, non-potable water began running downtown last night! This means our toilet is operational for larger crowds. And we provide a clean water hand washing sink.

These incredible humans playing here tonight have been volunteering for the community in ways that could be felt by thousands in the area. They are showing up today for us to begin fundraising to keep our doors open and rehire our staff. They are showing up because we collectively believe in the healing power of live music. We feel now that it is our place to provide the next steps of healing from Helene, through the power of music and community.

We will run this show early doors at 5 / music at 6pm

There will be hot food!

More updates to come. With love, ur Static Fam.

Today we made 90 bowls of vegan chili and 150 pb&j’s all of which were distributed to Burnsville, swannanoa, and Barnardsville by local community members! We will continue making hot food in the coming days, please send us a message if you’d like to volunteer in the kitchen or to hand out food. And if you know of places we can drop off hot food, please comment! Additionally, we are still doing supply distribution at the shop. If you plan on heading out to any surrounding communities, please come by and take some things to bring with you!

ADVANCE BASE is the melancholic soft rock recording project of Chicago, IL singer/songwriter Owen Ashworth (formerly of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone). Using a two-handed arsenal of electric piano, Omnichord, samplers, effect pedals & drum machines, Ashworth builds minimalist, heavy-hearted, & nostalgia-obsessed ballads around his conversational baritone. The warm, electronic sound of Advance Base has been described as “lo-fi,” “depressed” & “weirdly uplifting.”
