Foundation President Lee Epting released a statement Friday that “The preservation of the President’s House and its gardens is of paramount importance to our community and the history of our university. We are delighted to see a unified commitment from all parties involved.”

The President's House Foundation group says UGA officials will listen to proposals to keep historic house from sale.

Help support Max's Lakeside!
Like all of us in the Lake Rabun community, I was so sorry to hear that our neighbor, Max’s Lakeside, is temporarily closed due to a fire that happened this morning. I stopped by to check on their team today. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Even with all they're going through, they're still thinking about making sure everyone is fed this Labor Day Weekend, and asked if I could help.

Some of my team are bringing extra food to the Lake. If you need to pick up food for this weekend, stop by and see us tomorrow, Saturday, August 31, starting at 10am. No need to pre-order. We accept payment onsite. I'll also donate 10% of the proceeds from this weekend to help support Max's employees. We'll stay connected, and keep you posted about other ways to support the Max's team once more information is available.

During our Summer Membership Drive, Georgia Trust members from around the state are telling us why they support the Trust. Today we are hearing from Lee Epting of Athens, founder of Epting Events. "I first heard of The Georgia Trust through the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation when I began the restoration of the Southern Railway Train Station in Athens. When the Ramble came to Athens, I had the privilege of catering at the Whitehall Mansion. It wasn’t long before I began traveling around the state catering for Rambles, producing period meals often in period attire. Through all of this, the Trust is responsible for introducing me to an array of gifted people that have enhanced my life both from their knowledge on preservation issues as I began collecting and restoring historic structures, to becoming lifelong friends that share an appreciation of knowing about the past, preserving it for the future and just enjoying good company. Now, most recently Georgia Trust President Wright Mitchell has been instrumental in helping us place protective easements on the University of Georgia's President's House as it sadly goes up for sale. Thanks to the vision of EH Culpepper, Gwen O’Looney, Doc Eldridge, Lee Epting, Stan Mullins, Jimbo Laboon, and Lee Epting’s pledge Billy Payne, we showed the world Southern Hospitality and creativity in Athens. Serving the Australians we learned that kale was a vegetable to be eaten raw, not just a deco piece for platters!!! All these years later we’re still serving hospitality wherever and whenever we can.”
