The Classic Center, in association with Oak View Group, is excited to announce that the new arena will officially be named Akins Ford Arena.

The Classic Center and Akins Ford have been working to form a partnership driven by entertainment through a ten-year naming rights deal. The Classic Center’s partnership with Akins Ford goes back to when their ice rink transformed The Classic Center’s Grand Hall into Akins Ford Arena starting in 2014 for public ice skating and UGA Club Hockey.

“We are so thrilled to continue this partnership with Brad Akins and Akins Ford as we gear up for the arena’s grand opening,” said Paul Cramer, President/CEO of The Classic Center. “I am excited to see how Akins Ford Arena accelerates our community with new entertainment offerings.”

For National Nonprofit Day, we would like to highlight The Classic Center Cultural Center and some of the contributions they've made to the Athens community. In 2019, the Cultural Foundation presented a $5,000 community grant to the Historic Cobbham Foundation for the renovation of the Cobbham Triangle Park, located off Prince Avenue in Athens. These funds specifically supported a mosaic installation called “Flow” by local artist, Krysia Ara, along a wall seat in the park. “Flow” was completed in the Fall 2019, and the park was dedicated on Sunday, November 10, 2019.

Our Story

The Classic Center is northeast Georgia's premier award winning convention center and performing arts theatre. Located in the heart of downtown Athens, Georgia, The Classic Center provides unique meeting space, outstanding special events services and a wide range of entertainment options, making this unconventional convention center the choice for conferences, meetings and special events! The Classic Center is under the auspices of The Classic Center Authority (CCA), a political subdivision of the state government, created on March 10, 1988, as enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Georgia. The five-member CCA board of directors is appointed by the Athens-Clarke County Commission.
