“My bridal shopping experience was nothing like I had pictured it would be. Store after store, dress after dress and nothing. I would see all of the girls having their “yes to the dress” moments all around me and I started to think that may just not ever be me. From Miami to Tampa, I searched. Dresses were all starting to blur together and something that was supposed to be fun and exciting was quickly turning to disappointment and exhaustion. It wasn’t until my last appointment, 6 shops later and around 5pm, that things changed. I walked in to Calvet Couture Sarasota with little to no expectations. I proceed the way I always had - photo inspo, my non-negotiables, what I liked and didn’t like. Erica began to pull dresses. Just as I was about try on, she presented me with a dress that could not be more opposite of what I was looking for. After some convincing, I caved and offered to try it on to humor her. Sure enough, I walked out in a gown that I would never have pulled for myself, with tears in my eyes. How could a dress so different from what I envisioned for myself, so different than what I always thought I would wear, be the one? But it was! A Coastal Camp Inspired Wedding Weekend on South Carolina’s Kiawah Island. Ruthie’s priority when choosing her wedding gown was to find a timeless, comfortable dress that “looked like her usual self” - per the request of her groom, Paul. In order to stay true to her natural style while honoring family tradition, Ruthie made her dress appointment at Anne Barge Atelier in Atlanta, the same designer who created Paul’s mother’s wedding gown. Ruthie fell in love with the soft but classic look of the Naomi by Anne Barge. Ruthie customized the gown to create a chic, square neckline with a V-shaped plunge on the back. Ruthie then focused on finding bridal elements from both her family and Paul’s family to add a traditional touch to the gown. Ruthie collected a piece of fabric from her mother’s wedding dress, lace from Paul’s mother’s wedding veil, seed pearls from her grandmother’s wedding tiara, and finally a ribbon from her great-grandmother and namesake’s wedding skirt to create a heart on the inside of her wedding dress by her left ankle.
“The addition of the traditional heart inside my dress was the perfect way for me to privately acknowledge the love we have for our families, without minimizing the integrity of my own wedding gown style. I loved knowing that these pieces of our history walked down the aisle with me.” - As seen on

For Caroline and Marshall, adhering to this tradition proved worthwhile. Despite a hurricane striking just days before their wedding this month, luck was on their side as Amelia Island greeted them with sunny and picturesque weather on their wedding day.

Today, we send our happiest birthday wishes to Shawne Jacobs, President and Creative Director of Anne Barge. Shawne began her career at the company in 2002 under the founder and namesake Mrs. Anne Barge Clegg. Upon learning every aspect of the bridal business and honing her design skills under the tutelage of Mrs. Barge, she assumed her role as Creative Director in 2014 and has since evolved the brand and collection into her own.
