Happy Juneteenth

Today we celebrate freedom. 156 years ago on June 19, 1865 the people in Galveston, Texas were finally met by Union troops and informed that their enslavement had ended.

This news came nearly two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Over 250,000 Black people in the Confederate-controlled Texas remained enslaved.

Unfortunately, there is still much more work that needs to be done as far as racial equality. But in light of today, we will honor our ancestors and celebrate a day that changed the south forever.
