We are 4 weeks away from the premier of Entre Mundos - Between Worlds and it’s time to spotlight Dr. Marina Bengoa Roldán! Originally from Madrid, Spain, Marina currently resides in Arkansas, and is known for her profound research about Spanish classical piano music. This is a unique opportunity to see Dr. Bengoa Roldán perform in Atlanta, as she is coming to the city exclusively for this show. Don’t miss this one-time event that promises to be a mesmerizing fusion of Spanish classical piano and flamenco dance.

A Fortunate Reconnection
Our story with Marina began in 2015 at the Chopin Society of Atlanta Gala, a memorable evening where the notes of Chopin met the fiery dance of flamenco. Marina, then a student at Georgia State University, performed Chopin's pieces while La Candela danced, interpreting the emotional depth of Chopin’s letter from Majorca. After years apart, our paths crossed again in 2023, rekindling a shared dedication to Spanish music which, despite its richness, holds a modest presence in the United States. This reconnection was nothing short of destiny.

A Mission to Promote Spanish Music
Dr. Bengoa Roldán has been a fervent promoter of Spanish classical music across the US and Europe. She commissioned and premiered the "Fantasia Flamenca" by Pascual Gimeno, a piece dedicated to her that embodies the spirit of Spanish music. So happy to be part of the success of our presenters! Congrats Wilson Arts!!!

Wilson County Schools presented Wilson Arts with the Good News Award this week "in recognition of providing exceptional learning opportunities for Wilson County Schools third-graders over the past several years". Executive Director Cathy Hardison accepted the award on Monday evening.

Each year as part of the Boykin Series lineup, Wilson Arts has a performance group that comes early and leads a cultural workshop with students. This past fall, local third graders attended a session at the Edna Boykin Cultural Center with Atlanta-based La Candela Flamenco to learn all about Flamenco dance and culture.

For many of the students, these workshops and mini performances are their first time in the theater and their first time experiencing this kind of art. It is always a fun time for everyone and a highlight of our season.

Thank you Wilson County School for your partnership. We hope to bring many more learning opportunities in years to come!

Our Story

Our story begins with Ania La Candela, who left everything to spend over two years in Seville to pursue her dream of becoming a professional flamenco artist. Upon her return from Spain, Ania started La Candela Company to share her love for flamenco and bring flamenco and Spanish music closer to North America. She closely works with guitarists Jose Chirinos and Otto Doble T to bring together the tradition of flamenco from southern Spain, Spanish classical music, Latin jazz, world fusion and the diverse cultural backgrounds of the artists. La Candela Company also invites and collaborates with other national and international guest flamenco artists.

The company produces live flamenco shows in the Atlanta area as well as is available for hire anywhere in the Southeast and beyond, brining a Spanish flair and captivating, unique entertainment to both corporate and private events.

In 2018 La Candela Company expanded to include Latin jazz and world fusion music out of the need for more complete entertainment. Our clients now have an option of booking not only a flamenco experience but also the main entertainment band which comprises of many local jazz musicians and is managed by jazz and flamenco percussionist Jerry Fields. The repertoire even includes Gypsy Kings cover songs!
