Food For Thought. “I love cooking with fennel,” says Ina Garten of this tasty herb found growing in Marathon, Greece, site of the historic battle between the Greeks and Persian forces this week in September, 490 B. C. In fact, the name “marathon” arrives from the word fennel, the hardy, perennial plant with yellow flowers and feathery leaves. Food, sports, and cooking all essential ingredients in the quest for sustenance & style.

Throughout the wedding week, there was one constant-the brides enigmatic smile. Glimpsed while greeting guests or sharing an intimate glance across the room with her bridegroom, the smile remained ever present. That smile, that unmistakeable idea of beauty personified, the gift of the Gods, the “it” factor, all dependent on the one element it could never exist without-the sense of MYSTERY. From the brides persona, the visual intersection of delicate lace and black orchids, the dizzying mountainous altitude, the peripheral swirl of sunlight and shadows, mystery-an exercise of wondering and wonderment surrounded the modern-day Giaconda as a veil refusing to give up its secrets. Even now, afterwards, the smile, the mystery, and the beauty remain captured for all time in these revealing photographs, happily for all of us to enjoy.

“I try to make sure our collection has enough pieces in there that any woman can come and find something that makes her feel like the superhero version of herself.” WES GORDON 2021
Ahead of his time, the wunderkind designer for Caroline Herrera, spoke to the Barbie effect that is currently occupying our attention. Here, our poolside luncheon from September 2022 featuring his spring 2023 collection. The young daughter of the our hostess gladly offered her collection for her own version of a fashion show. “How ya like my Gucci’s?” asked the voluptuous goddess of the silver screen as she peered over her iconic sunglasses at the beginning of her interview surrounding her meteoric comeback.
Also making a reappearance is Gucci’s Glade wallpaper - Glade referring to open spaces in forests and in this case, the revival of centuries old European tapestries. Designed by Alessandro Michele as part of their collection, “Souvenir From Rome” it showcases “a pictorial design depicting a rich landscape of leaves and foliage.” We like your Gucci’s very much Ms. C., very much indeed.

POET’S LOVE LETTER “Simon George” by Hans Holbein the Younger, 1535. Flowers & symbolism abound in this Renaissance painting depicting the young man showcasing several flowers. Colorful pansies placed on his cap referring to thoughtfulness and a single red carnation denoting affection & betrothal are just a few of the ways Holbein infused symbolic floral tributes to convey his message.

THE MET GALA, First Monday in May.
With the big Fay approaching, we’ll look back for a little inspiration, a la Londres, for this years Met theme-The Gilded Age. The event which was the highlight of the 1897 London Social Season was the Devonshire House Ball given by the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire at their sprawling Mayfair home. In attendance, among those recipients of reportedly 700 invites, were members of nearly every European Royal House including the Czar Nicholas ll and Czarina Alexandra. British royalty attending the masquerade ball included The Prince and Princess Of Wales and The Duke and Duchess of York. The host, the Double Duchess, appeared as Zenobia, Queen of Palmyra, wearing a “magnificent costume of gold tissue, cream crepe de chine, with a train of green velvet of a lovely shade, delicately embroidered in Oriental designs introducing LOTUS FLOWERS in rubies, sapphires, amethysts, emeralds, and sprinklered all over with diamonds.” Who wouldn’t want to be sprinkled with diamonds! Here’s to an equally special evening at the Met.

Happy Holy Week from “The Tiffany Girls!”
Little known history of the iconic New York brand, Tiffany’s, is Louis Comfort Tiffany’s choice to employ up to 50 women as primary designers/craftswomen during the company’s heyday-The Gilded Age.
Among these stalwarts were Clara Driscoll, Alice Gouvy, & Agnes Northrop. Together with their staff, these three women shattered the proverbial glass ceiling by collaborating on Art Nouveaux projects featuring sacred and secular motifs. Flowers-wisteria, hollyhocks, foxgloves, & clematis-and landscapes from nature served as the main inspiration for these projects and forged the “Tiffany Girls” rightful place in design history.
