Sundilla Concert Series & Radio Hour

Sundilla Concert Series & Radio Hour In 2023 we'll celebrate 30 years of bringing the best musicians from around the world to Auburn, AL! "The band" in question was, of course, The Beatles.

Somewhere, there is probably someone who lived in England in 1960 who turned down a chance to go to The Cavern Club because he had never heard of the band. They went on to have a bit of success in the music business; enough success that the guy who didn't want to go see them play because he had never heard of them is still kicking himself black-and-blue 40 years later. So when you're trying to dec

ide whether or not you want to drag yourself out to see some unknown play at Sundilla, just remind yourself that every musician was once an unknown, and that every musician who sells out arenas for hundreds of dollars per ticket once played somewhere for under ten bucks. And someone who paid hundreds of dollars to sit in the last row of an arena once turned down the chance to sit on the first row of a small venue for next to nothing. Don't be this person!

LIVE MUSIC TONIGHT! The WES COLLINS BAND in concert at Sundilla is happening tonight, Thursday June 5. Showtime at the AUUF (450 E. Thach Avenue in Auburn) is 7:30, and you can still find $20 Advance tickets at Spicer's Music, LLC, Ross House Coffee, and online at www.sundillamusic.com/category/buy-tickets/.
At age 44, Wes Collins and his wife Anita made a pact to become writers: she started writing fiction and Wes penned his first song. A few years later, they were both multi-award-winners in their fields. Collins more than makes up for lost time with songs so dense with ideas that a first listen only scratches the surface. Come for a haunting melody and some intricate fingerpicking and stay for the wit and deep literary intelligence. There is always more to find in a Wes Collins song.
That's not just us saying that; Wes has amassed an impressive list of fans and supporters among his peers:

“You could hear a Wes Collins album all the way through without listening to a single lyric and be moved—his musicianship and musicality create a landscape in which you are thankful to lose yourself. But we listen to lyrics, and Wes can spin a story. His use of language, and his voice, bring you layers deeper than you planned to go, but you don’t want to leave.” --Crystal & Pete Damore, Ordinary Elephant

“Wes Collins’ songs have a way of circling around my mood and elevating it. His music makes me feel better, no matter how my day is going. I congratulate him on his new record Jabberwockies, a stellar collection of new songs, beautiful vocals, and glorious harmonies by Jaimee Harris and Crystal Hariu-Damore. I can’t stop listening to it, I love it!" -- Mary Gauthier

"Wes Collins has a wonderful gift for telling stories from truly unique points of view. Every narrator in Jabberwockies reveals thoughts I've had, but would certainly be terrified to express. Wes is a courageous songwriter. Wes also has that magical musical sensibility that makes me hit "repeat" on his songs. He makes my favorite records and he's one of my ultimate favorite musical artists." -- Jaimee Harris

“His skill with the guitar makes the most of his imaginative arrangements and nuanced control of cadence and phrasing, underscoring the subtlety and bite of his lyrics. He credits many other singer/songwriters in his musical tent as inspiration, including Neil Finn, Gillian Welch, Bruce Cockburn, and Patty Griffin, but Collins is well on his way to establishing his own voice as one we should value.” — North Carolina Arts Council

And, he has won some awards:
2019 Telluride Troubadour Finalist
2019 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist
2018 Wildflower Performing Songwriter Competition Finalist
2017 Songwriter Serenade 2nd Place Winner
2015 Kerrville Grassy Hill New Folk Winner
2013 Kerrville Grassy Hill New Folk Finalist
2012 North Carolina Songwriter Co-op Song Contest 1st Place Winner

Tomorrow you can worry about the weather and what event to attend. Tonight, it's easy: come to the AUUF at 7:30 and hear The Wes Collins Band. For more information, go to www.sundillamusic.com.

Some might remember when Wes Collins performed for us a few years ago; The WES COLLINS BAND is the same frontman, now backed by a few of his friends. (One of those friends, FJ Ventre, is no stranger to Sundilla after he and Jon Shain played here in 2023. The rest of the band will get to experience Sundilla for the first time.
Wes has played shows from coast to coast including: The Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville, TN; The Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, TX; the Cary Theater in Cary, NC (opening for Dave Olney); and many more. He is a winner of the prestigious Grassy Hills New Folk Competition and a North Carolina Arts Council Songwriting Fellowship, and has been featured as a finalist in The Telluride Troubadour Contest in Telluride, CO; The Songwriter's Serenade Competition in Moravia, TX; and The Wildflower Performing Songwriter Contest in Dallas, TX. Only in Hollywood does someone say "I have an idea! I know it sounds crazy but it just might work: let's become award-winning artists!" That might not be the exact way it started with Wes Collins and his wife Anita, but that's what happened. They made a pact to become writers: she started writing fiction and Wes penned his first song. A few years later, they were both multi-award-winners in their fields.
Despite the late start, Collins more than makes up for lost time with songs so dense with ideas that a first listen only scratches the surface. Come for a haunting melody and some intricate finger-picking and stay for the wit and deep literary intelligence. There is always more to find in a Wes Collins song. That's why his admirers include the likes of Mary Gauthier, Ordinary Elephant, and Jonathan Byrd.
A few years ago Wes Collins became the latest in a long line of Sundilla performers who took the stage as an "unknown," and left the stage as a new favorite to many in the Sundilla audience. This time, he's not coming alone; he's bringing the band! FJ Ventre was here with Jon Shain two years ago, but this will be the first visit for Barry Gray and Scott Dameron. Four times the musicians, four times the fun! For more information, go to www.sundillamusic.com.

Wes Collins appeared at Sundilla a few years ago, and left with a legion of new fans. This time he's not coming alone; he's bringing the band! TONIGHT!! MINOR GOLD in concert at Sundilla! Showtime at Pebble Hill (101 S. Debardeleben in Auburn) is 7:30. You can find Advance tickets for just $20 at Spicer's Music, LLC, Ross House Coffee, or online at https://www.sundillamusic.com/category/buy-tickets/; admission at the door will be $25, and $25 for students. Free coffee, tea, water and food will be available, and the audience is welcome to bring their own favorite food or beverage.

And barring a sudden change in the weather, it looks like this will be an OUTDOOR concert! Chairs will be available, but if you have your own tailgate-style chair feel free to bring it.

If Minor Gold have a superpower, it’s their melodic vocal interplay and sixth-sense harmonies. There is a lush swell and sway as their voices intertwine, constantly throwing out sublime hooks. Among the names often invoked when trying to describe the sound of Minor Gold are Paul Simon, Gillian Welch, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Crosby Still and Nash, Nick Drake and, according to Loud Mouth Magazine, “…like Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham at the top of their game.”

ONLY TWO MORE DAYS!! Friday May 23 is when MINOR GOLD in concert at Sundilla happens! Showtime at Pebble Hill (101 S. Debardeleben) is 7:30, and you can still find Advance tickets for $20 at Spicer's Music, LLC, Ross House Coffee, and online at https://www.sundillamusic.com/category/buy-tickets/. Admission at the door will be $25, and $15 for students. Free coffee, tea, water and food will be available, and the audience is welcome to bring their own favorite food or drink.

If the weather cooperates, this will be an OUTDOOR show! And not to jinx anything, but have you seen the forecast for Friday? Things could change (we're talking about the weather, after all) but right now "cooperates" might be an understatement. Temps in the 70s, and no chance of rain? Get outside while you can! It might be a while before we see another night like that!

But don't just come for the weather; the concert will be even better. Minor Gold is a duo that is making waves in the Americana space, with delightful, breezy songs of love and respect, dreams and yearning. Theirs is a folksy sound with overtones of Simon and Garfunkel, a slice of Graham Nash-sounding harmony and some retro 70s and 80s production – a little something for everyone! (Other artists mentioned when trying to describe Minor Gold include Tom Petty, Nick Drake, Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham, and Crosby, Stills & Nash.)
