this week my client/bride got to go play at ! this place has SO MANY COOL EVENT ITEMS AND YOU CAN RENT AND RETURN EVERYTHING. what a DREAM.

we talked through her vision for the reception and made a plan for what type of rental items to search for…turns out very few things excite us the way colored glass does. cannot wait to see this wedding come together in May!

threw beautiful sister a rock and roll themed baby shower last weekend. this was a blast to put together and we’re excited to do a meet and greet with baby fynnlee on her debut world tour. 🤘🏽💖

had a sweet little baby sprinkle back in february for our sweet friend ! couldn’t choose between a literal ‘sprinkle’ theme and a ‘POP’ theme - so we did both.

we know we’re a few days in already, but may is AAPI heritage month! like many racialized and historically excluded communities, having a dedicated month is lovely, but our AAPI brothers, sisters, and others should be lifted up and celebrated YEAR ROUND, folks. we are going to do our part as a business and as individuals to continue following and learning from AAPI communities, creators, activists, event professionals, and small businesses.

oh, and if you’re hiring a speaker, group, or using something created by someone from the AAPI community - PAY them and/or give them CREDIT for their work! in fact, do that every day, month, and year.

hi! i’m kelsey (she/her) - the owner and founder of MIXTO Event Planning. after 9 months of being an official business, i figured it was time to introduce myself!

planning events gives me such energy and purpose and i feel super duper grateful to be in a position to do this regularly. outside of planning events, i have backgrounds in mental health counseling, education, coaching, and non-profit work. i love sweets, color, the holidays, any and all comfort items, chicago sports, and dance parties of any kind.

i created MIXTO with three major goals in mind:

1. to help folks plan and design events that are unique, inclusive, AND sustainable

2. to help uplift other local vendors and businesses - especially those that are owned/run by women, BIPOC, folks from LGBTQ+ community, and/or folks with disabilities

3. to give back to the local community as much and as often as possible

MIXTO is so much more than traditional event planning and I couldn’t be prouder or more excited about the direction we’re heading. if your heart is in the same place as mine, i would love to work with you and be a part of your story. let’s get it!

🌟results from our 2021 holiday fundraiser🌟every time we do something like this we are, without fail, b-l-o-w-n away by the generosity of friends, family, and our community.

MIXTO was born out of/heavily influenced by an overwhelming desire to do more things EXACTLY like this. and here we are.

these are the types of efforts we put at least 5% of all our profits toward. so if you or someone you know is planning an event, send them our way. they win, we win, the community wins, the planet wins.

football themed 40th surprise party = success! this was super fun to work on and we couldn’t love Lynette Sartori and her sweet family any more! thank you for including us. cheers to 40!

this was our last event of 2021 and we couldn’t have predicted a sweeter start for this business. the love and support we’ve received has been everything and we can’t wait to see what 2022 has in store.

wrapping paper can look so pretty, but it is truly ANOTHER single-use product. after those gifts are ripped open, all that paper usually goes right into the garbage. boo. PLUS wrapping paper with a glossy look has plastic. double boo. don’t fret - there are tons of alternatives. here are some ideas:
-use a blanket or a fun pillowcase
-toss smaller gifts in stocking to be used again
-try gift bags
-find some cute fabric that can be repurposed as a napkin, a headband, or other decor
-wrap with newspaper or brown paper
-thrift a cool basket, purse, pencil case, tin, and/or pot

okay. we admit it. shopping during this time of year is one of our favorite things. so this can be a doozy. especially during - however, creating a list, a budget, and a solid plan prior to beginning your shopping (whether online or in-store) can help you save money AND reduce the number of things that will likely end up in an over stuffed thrift store or worse - the landfill. this applies to holiday gifts, events, and meals!

2 questions to ask yourself before purchasing:

-do you (or the person you’re shopping for) *need* this?

-in the case of an attractive sale, would you have purchased this at full price?
