Its this wonderful time of the year for us. In celebration of our Newah holiday season, Nepal Sambat (Newah New Year) and Mha Puja Celebrations, worship-to-the-self, we are once again hosting a community gathering. The whole purpose of this event is to inform the local Nepali and non Nepali communities about Nepali art, culture and our traditional practices to preserve our cultural heritage, networking opportunities and strengthening our neighborhood with the sense of belonging. This event will also act as a wellness program as "Mha Puja" as a whole is about a reminder to self-love and gratitude and will highlight food, culture and entertainment. Those who are interested to attend, please register here, as we have limited seats.

In this quest of wanting to be seen, heard, represented, we are here with on Multi-Culturalism and more!! This is terrific coverage on what we have been doing, what our mission is, where we come from and what our work means to us!! My sincere appreciation to Director Scott, Carol and Gary Shapiro for this wonderful opportunity! Nothing beats the feeling of representing the place you come from and talking about it from the innermost self of my heart!

We love Nepali kagaz!

Banks across Japan began stocking their ATMs on Wednesday July 3rd, 2024 with shiny new yen notes make from Lokta paper also known as Nepali kagaj.
Before entering the wallets of Japanese consumers, the yen notes had a long, complex journey involving months of labor and transport by land and air across thousands of kilometers. This process has offered a potential new source of income to communities in Nepal.

“I really think that Nepal contributed to Japan’s economy, as cash is fundamental to the Japanese economy,” said Tadashi Matsubara, president of Kanpou, the company that produces paper for the Japanese government. “Without Nepal, Japan would not function.”

Lately I have been feeling the need to share more behind- the-scenes of our business. Not the beautifully curated images but the raw authentic truth. My hope is that it leaves you feeling more connected and less like you are the only one feeling this way. We are all struggling with the similar reality- often there are highs, lows, fears and tears that never gets discussed or accurately depicted on social media.
With this recurring slow season, this month has been slow and truly we are barely get-going. With every second something.com offering a value meal in $ 10 with half hour delivery, how on earth our little business grow? How can we compete? But I am coming to realize that not everything is a race. That we are offering is not just a meal with a logo stuck on top. What we are offering is so much more than that. We are offering a real value, chance to get close to your family, a chance to check on your health, a chance to reconnect, a chance to celebrate, a chance to tell your loved ones that they love you. From now on I am going to be proud of that fact that we take days to make some of our products from scratch that it may take a little longer to reach your doorstep because we needed the time and creative inspiration to truly give you the best.
Because by supporting a small independent business, you are also supporting their process, their boundaries and their limitations. You are supporting and choosing slow. You are allowing the small business to be sustainable, by not questioning their prices, by understanding their value, and ultimately allowing the people in the business to continue to love what they do, to do a little skip and dance while working and feeling happy and healthy rather than tired and stressed. To all of our customers, the ones who truly understand our value, a big thank you for supporting our SLOW business.
