PAC Staff Spotlight: Brad Distelhorst, PAC Coordinator, holds a BFA in Theatre Performance from Baylor University. With over 18 years of theatre experience, including 3 years at WaterTower Theatre in Dallas and 15 years in public education, 4 of which he spent as a theatre teacher at Akins HS, Brad’s expertise covers Lighting, Sets, Rigging, Production, and Facility Management. His favorite PAC event is the Summer Theatre Series, as it seamlessly integrates all Fine Arts disciplines, bringing together actors, singers, dancers, musicians, artists, and technicians from across the district to produce exceptional student work. STS also pushes the highly trained PAC staff to impart real-world skills to the next generation of performance students. Outside of work, Brad enjoys family time, supporting his wife in the Library at Small MS, and watching his daughter excel both onstage and on the basketball court at the same school. PAC Staff Spotlight: Cole Rickman, PAC Production Supervisor, holds a BFA in Theatre - Teaching from Texas State University. With 12 years of experience in theatre tech, his expertise spans Event & Production Management, Lighting Design & Programming, Scenic Design & Construction, Projection Design, Rigging, and Sound. Cole’s favorite event is the Summer Theatre Series at the PAC. Beyond the performances, he finds fulfillment in mentoring students throughout the summer, fostering their technical skills and confidence. Witnessing their growth and creativity is immensely rewarding, as they carry these experiences back to their campuses, sparking further growth. Outside of work, Cole enjoys DIY projects such as building a house from scratch, game nights with friends, traveling, attending concerts & festivals, watching movies, and cherishing family time, especially with his new nephew. PAC Staff Spotlight: Jessica Martinez brings seven years of invaluable experience to the PAC team. Besides her normal job duties Jessica helps in various roles, including running audio for dance shows, installing and striking the Diva Orchestra Shell and the orchestra pit, hanging and programming lights, house management, and using the rigging system.

Jessica’s favorite PAC event is STS (Summer Theatre Series)! She finds joy in witnessing the entire process, from the initial days where kids are shy and unfamiliar with each other, to forming deep friendships by the end of the summer shows. She appreciates the intricate stages of production, from building sets and learning dances to memorizing lines and programming lights. Jessica acknowledges the backstage crew, often unnoticed, who work tirelessly to move set pieces on and off stage, as well as the creativity of students who craft costumes and props from scraps. Above all, she cherishes the culmination of efforts when the orchestra and the entire show seamlessly come together to create a spectacular production.

Outside of her work at the PAC, Jessica enjoys spending quality time with her family. Whether hiking, bowling, or relaxing by the lake, she values these moments together. PAC Staff Spotlight: Lorenza Elias has been part of the PAC team for 5 years. While I don’t have a specific tech background, I thoroughly enjoy supporting my colleagues. Each day, they teach me something new, making me feel like part of a vibrant community of learners, all centered around our students. The PAC family is truly unique; they’ve made me feel welcomed and at home.

When it comes to picking a favorite event at the PAC, there are too many to count. However, if I had to choose, I’d say musical theatre and dance are at the top of my list. The creativity showcased in the dance routines and set designs never fails to amaze me. Witnessing the students’ exceptional performances year after year is incredibly rewarding.

Outside of work, spending time with my family brings me immense joy. I love cooking for them and exploring new eateries in Austin. Sharing stories of my daily adventures at work always sparks lively conversations; there’s never a dull moment. Austin ISD Austin ISD Fine Arts

PAC Staff Spotlight: Justin Gomez has been with the PAC for 10 years. In addition to his regular duties, Justin helps with audio, maintains light fixtures, assists in stage pit installation and removal, and assists with set-up and strike of the Diva Orchestra Shell. His fondest memories at the PAC revolve around the outdoor Jazz Festivals, which he particularly enjoyed due to the engaging activities for children, the captivating performances by local artists, the delectable offerings from Austin’s finest food trucks, and the overall delightful ambiance. Away from the PAC, Justin treasures spending time with family and friends.
