Another Google 5-Star Review!

"Bellevue is a historic, stone former mansion. It is now the venue for many functions under the Austin Women's Club oversight. My wife and I were married there almost 30 years ago. We've been there many times to celebrate weddings and Christmas. The ballroom has a large, unobstructed wooden floor, perfect for dancing. They have their own, on-site parking lot, and an elevator to carry you up to the ballroom without a single stair-step. The place is beautiful." Dan Scott

This fall, UT Austin’s School of Human Ecology students studied The Gilded Age for their class: “Historic Apparel Collection & Exhibit Management” this fall. Assistant Professor Gail Chovan led 17 students in creating a special Gilded Age exhibit with men and women's historic garments and accessories from the 1880’s -1900's for the Austin Woman’s Club 150th Anniversary of Chateau Bellevue. www.chateauatx.com

One of the oldest and historically significant buildings in Austin, Chateau Bellevue is a French Romanesque mansion built in 1874 (some call it a castle). It sits on the hill between San Antonio and Nueces.

Students researched UT’s 6,500+ historic collection and learned professional museum standards and practice for the preservation, handling and exhibition of vintage fashions.

Organized in 1928, the Austin Woman's Club is a woman-owned, non-profit that supports education, charities, and historic preservation.

What a delightful night! Going back in time to the Gilded Age was fun! Making new friends and seeing old ones, and helping Austin Woman's Club celebrate 150 years of beautiful Chateau Bellevue - Austin Woman's Club was a pleasure!

I took some video of the event and my producer didn’t have time for it Saturday night at 10, so he’s planning to run it on Sunday at 5:30 pm on CBS Austin!

And with that, my glass slippers are off, I’m turning into a pumpkin, I’ll “fall back” and wake up ready to run Gazelle Foundation ! 😘 🏃🏻‍♀️

Just in Time for Halloween! Meet Athalea, our Chateau Ghost!

The North Family, the original builders of the Chateau, had several sons and one daughter. They moved to France because of the Civil War. There, Athalea, their daughter, studied piano (the house next to the Chateau was to be her "conservatory”). When the war was over the North family returned to Austin, but Athalea remained in France to continue her studies. While in France, she contracted consumption (tuberculosis) and her parents insisted she come home where the treatment for her illness would be better. Athalea did return to the United States, but she came in at Ellis Island which prohibited her from entering the USA with a communicable disease. Alas she died there, but it has been told that her spirit searched for her family and now resides in the Chateau! Over the years, many strange things have happened that have been blamed on the ghost of Athalea. Check out the video to get a glimpse of Athalea - be sure to watch to the end!
