Yesterday, October 13th. This was in the Hill Country. It hit 100 degrees in Austin.
If you’re planning a wedding or event for Fall and are planning on having it outside. Think again. Don’t make the mistake of romanticizing Fall and thinking it will be cooler. In New England, yes. In Central Texas, no. It’s just summer with pumpkin spice.
Have at least a backup plan so you and your guests don’t suffer heatstroke.
EXTENDED! I just moved the deadline to purchase tickets til tomorrow at 3pm! We still have seats available! The 1pm seating is sold out but all others have seats available. PLEASE come have some fabulous tea and treats, and support a sweet local family of 6 facing a really tough time.

Not only will we be having our famous and fabulous Rose Haven Event Venue High Tea, but also silent auction, and more! Stay tuned as we are just getting started and will be adding more as we go!
A portion of each tea ticket sold, as well as proceeds from our other activities, will go directly to Sarah’s family.
There are four seating times to choose from, so that we can stagger the attendees to be able to host more guests and maximize our donations to Sarah. The ticket time is the time you should ARRIVE. You can stay and savor the tea and delicious treats as long as you’d like!

Helping 36 families to relocate after a developer bought their mobile home park, Gateway Estates, and served them with a notice to vacate with an unreasonably short time frame. Sixty children are among all the residents affected.
The families have no recourse as there were no long-term leases in place, just month to month. Public outcry and appealing to the developer resulting in a short extension, but still not enough time for the logistics of moving this many homes. There are few if any mobile home lots to move to in the area. It costs approximately $20,000 to pack up, move, and reset a mobile home–possibly more if electrical, septic, etc must be installed in the new location. Several of the homes cannot be moved until some repairs are made to enable the structure to withstand the move.
Understandably, most of these families do not have the money or resources to move their homes. Finding new housing in the same price range is nearly impossible in the Dripping Springs area, keeping the children in the same school district.
Many local Dripping Springs Charities, Ministries, county and city officials, and Organizations have jumped in to help. Project Connect has created a fund to help the families. You can donate directly at https://www.projectconnectds.org/gateway-for-hope

I've been hearing about a lot of folks having Friendsgiving this weekend. We have the Thanksgiving preview desserts for you! We even have a whole Sweet Potato Souffle available. We have a small Carrot Cake available too. Along with lots of cupcakes, cheesecakes, etc!

Not sure if this has ever been done before. Couldn't find one online. But this was one hell of a cake and engineering project. 😬🤪😮💨
Huge shout out to Russell for figuring out how to get the pole to spin and the idea of the giant glass vase to give a truly authentic look. Then Matt did such an amazing job building the wooden base to hide the mechanism and look so nice. I built the cake itself. Teamwork makes the crazy cakes work!
Christy is a lifelong athlete who has always LOVED to eat! She created her first cake at 5 years old, & discovered a passion for sugar art. She created cakes for family & friends for many years as a hobby, while pursuing other avenues, always wishing she could create cakes full time. Suddenly the passing of the Cottage Laws in South Carolina, where she was living at the time, enabled her to start her cake business from home, & it took off quickly from there!
Christy was valedictorian of her high school class, a National Merit Scholar, & attended the University of Georgia (GO DAWGS!), earning her BBA in Accounting, & her MBA in Marketing & Sport Management. In high school she was North Region MVP in basketball, State High Individual in track twice, & All State in softball. Her other passion was horses, & she earned countless awards with her beloved horse Bits Misty Bee, including 4H State Champion, & becoming Miss Rodeo Georgia 1988. In college she discovered bodybuilding & still loves it to this day, winning the National Masters Figure Champion title in 2010.
Before cakes, Christy had the largest woman-owned landscape design company in East Tennessee. Then she moved to South Carolina to marry the love of her life, Michael Seguin, & became a top realtor. When real estate died, she became a personal trainer & had her own studio in a boxing gym where she also taught boot camp & group classes. It was during this time that she started earnestly creating sugar art & was amazed at the response. So yes, it is weird, but she had a gym AND a cake business at the same time!
When her husband was recruited to Austin & offered a dream position, she had never even been to Austin & didn't know a soul there. But she decided that her heart truly wanted to do nothing else but the cakes, & on May 7, 2014, she launched Cakes ROCK!!! literally from Ground Zero in Austin. Working from home alone at first, Cakes ROCK!!! quickly grew into more than she could handle, so she hired talented Cake Minions. She then moved into a shared commercial kitchen in late 2016 & expanded further. By fall of 2017 it became apparent that she needed her own space & she purchased her own bakery! Cakes ROCK!!! is now located at 4201 South Congress Avenue in Austin and 2400B Hwy 290 W in Dripping Springs.
Christy & Michael live near Cedar Park with her two 4-legged feline children, Eowyn & Rocky. They love travel, boating, barbecuing & music.
