Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Newton! I'm so grateful I got to play a part in your wedding!

I have a bit of sad news:

After a year of planning, hard work, and stress, my college program is happening! With my program starting, and having a full time job, I won't be able to continue doing weddings...*for now*. My last contracted wedding is August 31st, and I'm really excited for it! I'll still check in every little bit, if that's cool with you.

Thank you for letting me be a part of your best days for the last 6 years! I've loved almost (remember the one bride that went psychotic...I didn't like that one) every wedding I've been involved in, and haven't worked with a vendor that wasn't amazing!

You all RULE! ❤️

WOOHOO! Happy Pride indeed! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️For the month of June 20% off of all weddings booked, and that includes elopements....

WOOHOO! Happy Pride indeed! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

For the month of June 20% off of all weddings booked, and that includes elopements. I'm obviously a fan of love, so let's do it!

Just a reminder!

Just a reminder!

Sorry, it's a bit long...

It's wedding season! When you're planning your wedding, don't forget to book an officiant! A lot of people put off getting an officiant because let's face it, we're only a part of the wedding for a few minutes, but we're the most important part...we make your marriage legal.

Here are a few tips for hiring an officiant (or any wedding vendor really):

1) Interview more than one officiant. This should be a rule for anyone you hire for your wedding. Get consultations with a few different vendors to get a idea of what they're like, what their style is, and if they'll be a good fit for you.

2) Ask questions. Come up with a list of questions to ask officiants you interview. Do this with all of the vendors you want to hire. You're interviewing us for a job, ask ALL the questions! Bring a notebook with you so you can take notes. We don't mind.

3) Don't let anyone pressure you into hiring them. If any vendor pressures you to sign a contract immediately, or gets irritated that you want time to decide...run. Also, don't let any vendor talk you into going above your budget just for them. If they charge more for services than what you can afford, find a vendor within your budget, or ask if that vendor offers discounts (I offer discounts, so I encourage others to ask about them).

4) READ ALL CONTRACTS CAREFULLY! I cannot stress this enough. Take time to read it, and ask questions about the contract if you have them. We don't mind elaborating, and we'd rather you ask a question about something in our contracts than have anyone assume. Contracts should protect both the vendor and the signers. If there's something in the contract you're not comfortable with, and you're not comfortable with an explanation of it, don't sign it. Again, because it's incredibly important: READ ALL CONTRACTS CAREFULLY!

5) Don't hire anyone that makes you uncomfortable, or that you don't feel you can trust. It's our job to help make your wedding day everything you hoped it would be. Working with a vendor you're not comfortable with will just be another stressor on an already stressful day.

6) Most importantly, this day is about the two of you. That's it! You two. It's a day to celebrate your marriage. Hire who helps you achieve your wedding goals, and who is/are genuinely happy to be a part of your wedding day.

How it all began...

I decided to get ordained to perform weddings in December 2012, when the U.S. Supreme Court decided to hear arguments regarding California’s Prop 8 being unconstitutional. To me, marriage is firmly between the couple within the marriage, and I wanted to be able to perform wedding ceremonies for any couple that wanted them, regardless of orientation. While the decision didn’t come for a few more months, I wanted to be ready and there just in case.

Fast forward several years. A friend of mine was opening a wedding venue, and either I mentioned I was ordained, or he asked me if I was, but he asked if I would be interested in looking into being a vendor. I had no idea what that meant, but decided to go for it. There really isn’t a lot to lose in making people happy. I met with him and his business partner, who introduced me to the president of the Kern County Bridal Association. He helped me with price points, and tips on how to be successful in the business. After attending a KCBA mixer, I became a member of the Kern County Bridal Association, and still am.

To be honest, I love this job. I love doing ceremonies where it’s only the couple and a witness, and I love doing big ceremonies. It’s all complete joy, and how can you not love that? The best compliment I’ve gotten was being told by a bride that I made them feel completely at ease, and comfortable during the ceremony. That’s the goal!

I’m aware of the saying “you get what you pay for” as I’m the kid of local business owners, but I also don’t believe that you should have to break the bank to pay for your wedding, especially for an officiant. While being the officiant is an incredibly important part of the wedding (only the legal part, no big deal), the officiant isn’t a big part of the wedding as a whole. The reason I don’t charge a higher rate is simply because I don’t need to.
