Mitchell Band Boosters will meet tonight at 6:00 in the MHS band room. We hope you can join us!

As a reminder, Band Booster meetings were moved to the 2nd THURSDAY of each month, which better aligns with the Community Band practice that occurs afterwards. We look forward to getting back on a normal schedule after so many weather interruptions this year. Thank you for your continued support!

Band Booster Parents,
Students will stay after school on Thursday, March 20th for their Spring Concert. Students will have dinner starting at 4:00, with pictures afterwards. The concert will begin in the MHS Auditorium at 6:00. If you would like to contribute to the pre-concert meal, please reach out to Mr. Schwerzel, Mr. Hopson, or Mrs. Davis. Thank you for your continued support this year. We look forward to seeing everyone!

Our Mitchell Band Boosters are sponsoring our first annual golf tournament. Please support your Mitchell Band students by signing up to play and have lunch provided by an amazing local chef! Next week, September 23-27, is School Bus Ridership Week across school districts in North Carolina. The funding that we get for transportation is dependent on the number of students who ride a school bus during this week. Even if your child rides the bus occasionally, we ask that they please ride at least one day next week.

After Friday night’s game, I feel an explanation is necessary. I have been having health issues for some time that I did not realize would cause a problem. In two weeks, I have been to two doctors, and I have come to the realization that I must step down as the band sub.
I need to remind the athletic department and the cheerleaders that we were not leaving early, but I had a medical issue. Thanks to all who helped me get to the school and then home.
Thanks and apologies to the band students, band boosters and parents, administration (Cole and Sue, Suzie and all the office staff.) and fellow teachers and school employees for all of your help and support.
Your new teacher should be here on Monday, and you will do well, I am sure, and I hope you will resume afterschool practices. We had planned Tuesday and Thursday this week, but that may change. Watch this space for updates. Please help him in every way.
I must concentrate on my health.

Students, there is a change to tonight's schedule.
Be here at 5 when the band room opens. I will be unable to supervise students from dismissal until 5:00 pm. Food will be here about 5:15. Make sure to wear a black shirt, we have some extras. Your new full time band director will be here on Monday, so there will not be an after-school band practice that day. Spread the word! Prepare to have practice on Tuesday and Thursday until 4:30. I know that you will be successful!p

Band members: Food should arrive around 5:15 pm. Please don't hang out at the school from 3 - 5. The adults are human and need to go home for a bit.

Schedule update for Thursday and Friday.
Thursday – 3rd block class will have a sub, as Mr. Drum is at the doctor.
After school band class (Very important) will still meet from 3 pm until 4 pm. Bring everything you need.
Those doing community band will meet at 7 pm in the band room.
Friday
Band will meet third block.
The band room will open before the game at 5:00 pm
Band boosters will feed the students at 6:00 pm.
The students are asked to be in their seats ready to go at 6:15 pm.
Please have everything ready (instruments, music (in a flip folder), black band shirt or plain black shirt, Jeans or black pants).
Be prepared to march to the stadium between 6:45 and 7 pm.
Set up in the stands.
Pep band plays at the game. Only play with the band, no solos!
We will take a break at halftime for you to get food/snacks, all should be back with 8 minutes left in the third quarter.
We will stay in the stands and play until the end of the game.
Everyone will put up their equipment at the end of the game.
Don’t invite non-band members to sit with the band, they will be asked to move.

Just FYI. We are practicing Tuesday & Thursday from 3 until 4 pm at MHS to get ready for Friday’s Pep band performance. Remember, you get credit for these practices and performances, just as last year.
We will meet at 6 pm in the band room to warm up and go to the stadium. Dress will be last year’s band shirt and jeans. If you don’t have a band shirt yet, a plain black one will do. We stay for the whole game, and then return to the band room.
Additionally, we met the new Permanent Director (Andrew Schwerzel) today and he is impressive. We expect him to join us this week.
