Cylburn Arboretum Park Ambassador  

$15-16/hour, 32 – 40 hrs per week 

Schedule: 
- Summer Hours (Apr. – Sep.): Wed. – Sun. 12:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  
- Winter Hours (Oct. – Mar.) 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  
- Schedule occasionally goes until 9:30 p.m. (with advance notice/scheduling) 

Scope: This is customer service position that serves as staff on the grounds at Cylburn Arboretum during the busiest times of day (afternoon until park closure). Customer service tasks include interacting with visitors, providing visitor information, and supporting appropriate use of grounds and facilities. Common tasks include: unlocking/locking facilities for club meetings and rentals, supporting rentals with table & chair set-up, and securing the property at closing time.

Our city partners are recruiting for a new City Farms Coordinator in the Horticultural Division of Recreation of and Parks. This is a full-time position.

The City Farm Coordinator’s central responsibility is to work with gardeners, garden representatives, work crew members, and administrative staff to ensure the program runs smoothly, and that the growing season is a successful and enriching one for all. There are 11 garden locations currently with about 500 families participating. This is a physically active position that includes regular garden visits, training and supporting gardeners, light repairs, and administrative work. Some weekend work will be necessary; this is not a remote job. Knowledge of vegetable gardening, experience working with the public, computer skills, and a valid Maryland driver's license are required. Ability to drive a small dump truck would be an asset.

In case you are wondering about the fun for families at Cylburn Market Day – here is the rundown!

All children’s activities are free (yes, even the face painting and caricature drawing!). The Social Studio, The Baltimore Bird Club and Cylburn Arboretum Friends will have arts and craft booths. If you are still in search of a Mother’s Day gift, the Mt. Washington Garden Club will be offering a free plant and pot for your little one to put together as a gift. If education is more your focus, we have fun booths focused on bats and our natural world at Cylburn Arboretum. And last but not least, the Waldorf School of Baltimore will have a maypole dance at 11:00 a.m.

Some things to know as you plan your trip:
• Yes – Market Day is Rain or Shine
• The hours are Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
• The event is free, but parking on the grounds costs $10 (cash only)
• We will have wagons to rent for $10 (cash only)
• Food trucks will be on-site
• Face painting and caricature drawing begins at 10 a.m.
• The maypole dance is scheduled for 11 a.m.
• Champion Trees walks will take place departing from the Forestry Board Tent at 9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

Come meet the team and learn about the different volunteer opportunities available at Cylburn Arboretum. We will need new Visitor Service Volunteers to greet guests once we open our Nature Education Center and we always need friends to help us in the gardens, during special events, and in the office. Which opportunity is the best fit for you?

The event will be on Wednesday, March 8 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Vollmer Center.

As the days grow shorter, our hours are changing. Sunday, October 16, 2022 will be the last day we will be open until 8 pm for this season. After that, the Arboretum will close at 5 pm until next spring.

Special Events Team Member
Horticulture Division: Part-time positions during special event rentals for weddings, fundraisers, meetings and similar events. Tasks may include set up and tear down of tables and chairs, trash removal, light janitorial services, directing parking and similar tasks. Consistent weekend and evening availability required and consistent access to communicate via email/text messaging for scheduling and event communication and excellent customer service skills required. 12 to 24 hours per week average, some flexibility; $15 per hour.
