We are saddened to share the news that Margaret Budd, the Founder of Community Concerts at Second, passed away this past Sunday at the age of 94. While the CC2nd family mourns the loss of Margaret, we want to take this opportunity to celebrate her life, legacy, and her immense talent. Community Concerts at Second would simply not exist without Margaret and her incredible dedication to bringing free, world-class concerts to the community.

In addition to being our founder, Margaret was an extremely accomplished organist. Her 1996 album that she recorded at Second Presbyterian Church is evidence of that. We have uploaded the first track of that album--Bach's magnificent Toccata and Fugue in D minor--to our YouTube channel.

Margaret's interpretation of this piece is wondrous and represents the love she had for music, especially Bach's music! While the piece has become associated with Halloween and darker themes, when I listen to Margaret's interpretation I think of the inspiring passion with which she brought music to the people of Baltimore.

We will share details about services for Margaret when they are available. In the meantime, please feel free to use the comment section here to share your memories of Margaret.

Tonight we're presenting our final concert of the season at 7:30pm, and it's a doozie, as they say, featuring two world premieres (by Brian Prechtl and Michael Sheppard, pianist/composer/conductor), a gorgeous violin/piano sonata by Mozart, and Tchaikovsky's barn-storming string sextet, Souvenir de Florence. All performed by the terrific Baltimore Symphony Musicians.

We hope you will come on out for what promises to be a terrific concert. As always, presented free to all! If you cannot attend in-person, here is the link to the livestream:
