TOMORROW: Catch Ivan Stefanovic & Kevin Smith, violin; Karin Brown, viola; Dan Levitov, cello performing Beethoven's STRING QUARTET NO. 3 IN C MAJOR, OP. 59! 🎻

Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer and pianist. He is one of the most revered figures in the history of Western music; his works rank among the most performed of the classical music repertoire and span the transition from the Classical period to the Romantic era in classical music.

Here's a recording of the same piece by the Jasper String Quartet! Be sure to catch the piece performed by the Baltimore Symphony Musicians & Friends at 3:30pm tomorrow (December 1st!)

This weekend, Holly Jenkins, Kevin Smith, Jacob Shack, Jaime An, and Vitor Trindade will bring composer Elizabeth Maconchy's Clarinet Quintet to life -- catch their performance at 3:30pm this Sunday, December 1st! 🎵

Dame Elizabeth Violet Maconchy LeFanu was one of Britain's greatest composers to ever live. She grew up playing piano in rural Ireland, and began writing music at the age of six. She studied at the Royal College of Music under Ralph Vaughan Williams, and she completed her studies with K.B. Jirák in Prague. Ironically, the Royal College of Music denied her a scholarship for 'being a woman who will only get married and never write another note’ but Maconchy persisted and defied gender barriers, paving the way for other women in music and leaving a beautiful legacy behind her.

Here's a link to a video interview with Dr. Natasha Loges about Maconchy's fascinating life:

We are SO excited to feature an amazing chamber piece on December 1st by Alexander Tansman: the four-movement Suite for Wind Trio featuring oboist Melissa Hooper, clarinetist Jaewon Kim, and bassoonist Schuyler Jackson! 🎶

Born in Lodz, Poland, in 1897, Alexandre Tansman was a composer and pianist who lived most of his life in Paris, with some notable years spent in Los Angeles, where he made concert tours across the USA. He composed a great many neoclassical works drawing upon the music of the 18th century, including wonderful pieces for chamber ensembles, major orchestras, and even American and French films. Some of his best works include thematic nods to his Polish and Jewish heritage, often using forms like the polonaise and mazurka in his compositions.

Here's a link to a performance of the piece we'll be featuring this Sunday, recorded at the Round Top Festival:
