Not once has history been made by anyone that wasn’t willing to think outside the box and do the work to get s**t done that needs to be done. If lil ole me, fresh off of a heart attack and stroke just six months ago is out working you. I’m here to collect your lunch. You aren’t going to make it.
Work harder.

So, a few years back, before Covid, we tried to get the City Of RIchardson to partner with us on getting RIchardson included as an Official Texas Live Music City recognized by the the Texas Music Office. Could have opened up state grants, more recognition for local musicians, an all around good thing. Well we had reps from the Governors office trying to nail down a date, started reaching out to City Of RIchardson as well as other spots that featured live music in the city limits. Little interest or response from other venues or anyone we reached out to from the city. That’s kinda when we started to recognize the amount of just sheer indifference mindset. But ahh well. Water under the bridge. But they are trying to get the same thing happening in Dripping Springs, so we are spreading the word and trying to support as best we can. Even though we now live in Bandera which is maybe an hour and a half drive away, my future as far as live music is concerned is really only confined by the boarders of the state at this point, not confined to one brick and mortar spot. So if it raises up the Texas music scene and we can make it, we certainly will strive to be there. Stop on by if you get a chance, bring a guitar and pick a few tunes maybe. Keri and I will be there representing hat we have in the works for Beat Farm, Hazed Doggie and Republic Of Texas Radio.

Republic Of Texas Radio update. Off grid is, well, off grid. We’re in the midst of our second brand new generator giving up the ghost within 3 months of use. Second one died around 6 weeks ago. So per the warranty to replace it, it has to be checked out by an authorized repair shop. Closest one to us is a 4 hour round trip drive. So we dropped it off at the shop around 3 weeks ago this past Friday. Said shop had a round of the crud hit that they passed around to all the employees. Small business, completely understandable, if everyone is sick, everyone is sick. So I’ve been calling every few days, mostly getting voicemail with inability to leave one because inbox is full. At the same time, emailing back and forth with the manufacturer in Illinois. In essence asking WTF? It’s getting hotter here in Texas daily and costing us money daily on top because your product doesn’t last 3 months, twice now! Mind you nothing as bad as “the in the field” I did in the Army. But I was a much younger human that hadn’t had a heart attack followed by a stroke back then. But we’ve got by. Burn gas in the car with an inverter running a battery charger to charge the batteries to start the RV, also burning fuel, V10 engine. Just the basics, lights, a little power to the fridge etc. Costly! We’re slowly adding solar supplemental, but that’s also an expense on top of constantly filling gas cans for either the car or RV. Been three weeks, can’t ever get he shop on the phone that we had to take it to, 4 hour round trip, not like I can just swing by and check the status. So long story short, my third brand new generator should arrive by this Friday. And I can go pick up the generator that has been at the shop, not touched for three weeks, keep it, pay someone to repair it if I like, use it for parts, whatever. Pretty telling if you ask me, cheaper to just ship me a new one than fix the one I have that’s still under warranty, 2:year warranty, didn’t make it 3 months, and this is twice now. So hopefully this Friday I actually have power to run my PC and get some work done. Hopefully 3rd time is a charm. I’ll be recording at least 3 weekly shows of my own. Texas Blues with B.B. Springs, Live from The B Side which I’m talking with local venues about hosting a weekday night event that’s live recorded in more of the singer-songwriter vein of things and lastly the Texas Top Ten which will be compiled of the top ten songs by Texas based artists in every genre that I cultivate based upon discussions with the other DJ’s that I give time slots to where they upload their own shows. Already have a few content providers coming on board, some with their own shows/podcasts that will just upload quasi syndication under our umbrella so to speak as well as some new folks willing to give it a shot at producing shows. Any genre, anywhere in the Republic Of Texas playing strictly content by Texas artists only. Now I know some of you may know my political take on stuff, and we may even have had heated discussions in contrary directions. There’s no room for any of that here. The one and only 100% goal is to celebrate and spread Texas music to a wider audience, period. So if you are a Texas based artist, hit me up at [email protected] about submitting your music, same goes if you would like to talk about hosting/producing a show to fill a time slot. The hosting platform allows us to upload playlists, which we will divide by genre category, whatever your genre format is for your show, you just have to use songs that are submitted, that simple. Might just discover a band you have never heard of and they become your favorite new band that you use your show to build a following for. Start sending me stuff now. It will of course take me a minute to get all the working parts in line. Get submitted songs uploaded and into the system broken down by genre for hosts to build their shows from music wise. There will be kinks to work out I’m sure. The not rolling live yet, just build and upload your show before your broadcast time slot time for the week hits helps with the glitch control. It feels really great to be alive! Especially if you’ve been keeping up with the last few months. And if ya know me, I’m not really one for rolling platitudes. It just feels really great to have some shows I’m involved in again, even if they aren’t mine start to finish I have absolutely no problem promoting folks I believe in and I absolutely believe in and support these guys and they were kind enough to allow me to contribute some boots on ground in the area promo busy work while I’ve been licking my wounds so to speak. I’ve got stuff in the works beyond this, but for right here, right now it’s analogue needle in the groove old school do what I do. Wanna keep in the loop a quick scan will do it.

While we might not be able to swing back up North and catch some of our DFW friends that used to play our stage up there this Christmas we are lucky enough to have some great friends that live here that used to come up and play Six Springs on occasion just a 15-20 min. drive from The Beat Farm. Please know we haven’t forgot about any of you and we miss you bunches. I’ve already been chatting with some spots that I used to work with way back before I made the move up to DFW. Our focus for now is getting the Beat Farm set up, hopefully by late spring, early summer so when I do start bringing our extended family down to include in events down this way we’ll have a home base established where we can have folks stay, and play too. I kept all the 8 camera and editing gear. We’ve been shooting already on the slow but starting to come together “Building The Beat Farm” so to speak roll we will edit together and as we move farther along some In The Kitchen with Brad-N-Keri and whomever musical travelers are passing through will of course be filmed because why not, and then of course some acoustic house concert action to round out each episode. We have very few neighbors out here, a fact which we love, all that we have met so far are super cool folks that are digging what we are planning and can invite friends and family to join us for some occasional Sunday afternoon more acoustic oriented house concert and a meal kinda deal. Bunch of work to do first, but we’ll get there. Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and New Years and you and yours are all happy and healthy. Much Love Brad-N-Keri
