Someone was asking if I had instructions for a pattern. I didn't have it but I gave them this instead. It can be different depending on what you are making. This is good to have for most basic garment stitching.

Order of Sewing Operations

1. Darts, tucks, pleats
2. Interfacings
3. Style lines, princess lines and yokes
4. Pockets
5. All zippers but dress zippers
6. Shoulder seams
7. Side seams and inseams
8. Prepare collars but don’t attach yet.
9. Finish sleeves cuffs etc. but don’t set in yet.
10. Attach collars
11. Bodice facings
12. Set in sleeves
13. Waist seam of dress skirt and bodice
14. Waistband or was it facings for skirts and pants
15. Dress zipper
16. Hems
17. Buttons and buttonholes

Needles matter! They are so close in size but if you don’t have the correct one for your machine it won’t stitch correctly. We had to do a lot to this machine to get it running correctly. I replaced the tensions, cleaned it out. That fluff was only one pile that came out of the machine. When you can’t get in places you need cleaned try a pipe cleaner.They work great.
Now that it is working it will get a good cleaning once a week. Keep that machine clean! The less fluff the better it will run.

This past summer I helped clean out a home of a women who was very creative. I have 4-5 totes of wool fabric. Of course it has that old musty smell and have be postponing cleaning it. Well today after reading about cleaning wool blankets in the snow, I thought I would give it a try. After letting it sit covered in snow about 2 hours. I through them in the washer. They came out smelling fresh and are hanging to dry. Now the best of these first pieces is that she was reusing clothing. So I will be putting more out before the snow disappears.

We finally replaced the tensions on this serger. I was so excited to get this up and running. However we forgot we took the motor from this machine to another one we had.
Time to buy a servo motor.

The fabric is here! Backstage fabric for masks!

IT. IS. HERE. The long awaited backstage mask fabric has arrived. And it was worth the wait! The colors are vibrant the print is clear.

In the coming days I will posting more things for sale.

This is me. Almost on any day you can find me behind my sewing machine. With many years of thrifting for shows I always bought things that touched my heart and flooded my memories of times past.
I want to share my finds so others can enjoy. Sorry the fisher price sewing machine isn’t for sale. It stays with my sewing machine.
In the next few weeks look for clothing made out of vintage fabric and Star Wars sheets!

We have been working hard on the mask making.

Phew! We’ve just sent out another batch of masks Thursday. We did some tallying and we’ve delivered over 520 masks!!!

I spent most of yesterday doing a little R&D to see if we can improve the fit of our masks. (Hence this photo of me wearing two masks at once... Do not recommend!!!)

We have batches of masks shipping Monday and Wednesday before we start our next phase of masks, kicking up our production speed and adding a few (in house) helpers as well. I’m feeling grateful to have an awesome business partner, co-stitcher, advisor, and listening ear through this process. Thanks, mom!
