Sacagawea
May c. 1788 – December 20, 1812 or April 9, 1884)was a Lemhi Shoshone woman who, in her teens, helped the Lewis and Clark Expedition in achieving their chartered mission objectives by exploring the Louisiana Territory. Sacagawea traveled with the expedition thousands of miles from North Dakota to the Pacific Ocean, helping to establish cultural contacts with Native American people and contributing to the expedition's knowledge of natural history in different regions.
Reliable historical information about Sacagawea is very limited. She was born c. 1788 into the Agaidika ('Salmon Eater', aka Lemhi Shoshone) tribe near present-day Salmon, Lemhi County, Idaho. This is near the continental divide at the present-day Idaho-Montana border.
In 1800, when she was about 12 years old, Sacagawea and several other children were taken captive by a group of Hidatsa in a raid that resulted in the deaths of several Shoshone: four men, four women, and several boys. She was held captive at a Hidatsa village near present-day Washburn, North Dakota.
At about age 13, she was sold into a non-consensual marriage to Toussaint Charbonneau, a Quebecois trapper. He had also bought another young Shoshone girl, known as Otter Woman, for a wife. Charbonneau was variously reported to have purchased both girls from the Hidatsa, or to have won Sacagawea while gambling.
The National American Woman Suffrage Association of the early 20th century adopted her as a symbol of women's worth and independence, erecting several statues and plaques in her memory, and doing much to recount her accomplishments

How often do you hide your feelings or want to do one thing but do another because you’re worried about what others might think? We do this often because we’re expected to fit into a lopsided, competitive, judgmental world. And we lose our voice, contribution, and sense of Self each time we do.

I am thrilled to host How to be (with) Your Self at AOLRC September 22nd – 24th. I look forward to the opportunity to be your guide as we reconnect with ourselves and transform the everyday internal struggles that live within us all.

It’s time for us to care for and spend time with ourselves. We don’t have to stop loving others to discover new, more effective ways of being and loving our true Self. I am eager for each of us to stand in that freedom.

I’ve been doing this transformational work for myself and others for over 30 years. And I am more enthusiastic about it than ever. Nothing is more powerful than someone who has taken agency of their internal experiences.

"Boogie-Woogie Dream" (1944) is a short musical featuring Lena Horne, Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson, Teddy Wilson, and his Orchestra. Official Films is responsible for the production and distribution of the movie. The film showcases musical talent when Lena sings "Unlucky Woman" and Albert and Pete perform "Boogie Woogie Dreams." Teddy Wilson and his Orchestra provide additional musical numbers while playing for Lena.

Official Films released the movie in 1944, but filming started in 1941, two years before Lena Horne starred in "Stormy Weather" and Cabin in the Sky." So by 1941, Lena hadn't made it into the Hollywood limelight even after appearing in her first leading role in the 1938 film by Ralph Cooper, "The Duke is Tops." In addition, Pete Thomas and Albert Ammons were professional pianists famous for their jazz and boogie-woogie compositions. Teddy Wilson was also a prominent pianist who worked with Louis Armstrong, Lionel Hampton, and Billie Holiday. Wilson formed his short-lived big band in 1939, then led a sextet at Café Society from 1940 to 1944.

While the film was short, it received many advertisements in 1944 and 1945. However, Lena's sudden stardom increased attraction in this film.

Director: Hans Burger
Writer: Karl Farkas

Starring Lena Horne, Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson, Teddy Wilson, Virginia Pine, Russell Morrison

Another wonderful 60's beat ballad, this time from Dionne Warwick's younger sister Dee Dee, who started off by singing with her sister and their Aunt Cissy Houston in their local church in Newark, NJ, they eventually became The Gospelaires. While Dionne went on to international stardom Dee Dee became a much in-demand session and backing singer, often backing her sister. Unfortunately she struggled with diabetes for many years and sadly passed away in 2008 aged 66.
She did however cut several fantastic tracks as a solo artist, this being one of them, on the Mercury label from 1967, "When Love Slips Away". (Rare video footage of Dee Dee performing it).
