With mixed emotions we are announcing our retirement. Although we are extremely excited for our next adventures, we are saddened that we will not see our many customers and friends each week at the St. Joe Farmer’s Market. We will still have beautiful flowers and plants growing at the farm, just on a smaller scale. If anyone wants a bouquet for a special occasion, contact us and if my flowers can fill the need we would be happy to arrange for you.

Open House at Black Dog Farms
We will miss the opening day of the St. Joe Farmer’s Market (sorry), but will hold an Open House on the Farm Sunday (May 30th) from 11:00 to 3:00. We have beautiful tomato and pepper plants. Herbs, potted lilies, sensational succulent gardens, and gorgeous patio containers. Come check us out!

Thanks to all that stopped by the Open House! To all gardening enthusiasts- let’s keep our shopping local. If your favorite garden center is out of your preferred tomato, pepper, or herb plants - don’t take your business across the state line. We have many plants available. Visit us next week from 9:00 to 5:00.

So happy that the St. Joseph Farmer’s market will start June 6! We will be there selling herbs , vegetable plants, succulents, potted lilies, and patio planters. Can’t wait? We will have an open house, Friday May 22nd 9:00 to 5:00. Come see what’s growing!

The Farmers Market (St. Joseph) may be done, but my beautiful lisianthus is still blooming and available to brighten your day. You can call (269-470-4870, leave msg) and pick- up a nice bunch next day. Colors available - Apricot, Blush Pink, Purple, Lavender, Pink, Raspberry Pink, Pale Yellow, Green, Rosanne Brown (trendy multI tone , with shades of pink, yellow, brown, green). Order one color bunches or mix it up with mixed colors. Sleeved, ready to pop into your vase. $15. while they last!

Wrapping up and filing paperwork for 2018 business. I am reminded of the beautiful weddings I’ve done, and the great people I had the pleasure of meeting. Beth is on Spring Break....soaking up the sun .... enjoying the green plants all around ... sipping margaritas and enjoying Jimmy Buffet music! KIDDING. But I am soaking up the sun. The greenhouse is 78 degrees and I do have green plants all around me! Spring is coming.

Bridal Expo today at the Inn @ Harbor Shores. Thank you to all the future brides that stopped by to chat about your weddings! Fun table set up today with the pink/lavender hued flowers (fragrant too). Made a little floral jewelry to display- zoom in on the piece in the ring box!

Black Dog Flower Farm doesn’t have a storefront to visit but you can still shop. We offer decorated live greens Christmas wreaths (limited quantities) $65. and various packages of flower subscriptions for 2019. Ranging from $90. to $225. Custom planters for spring. Fresh cut locally grown flowers on a scheduled delivery (local only, shipping not available, sorry).

I am now taking orders for decorated Wreaths for Christmas. Live greens, dried materials, fruit, and seasonal decorations. Wreath sizes 20 - 24 inches overall. Delivery 1st week of December.

The flower fields look so pitiful this time of the year. I went up and down the rows to cut the last of the good looking flowers. Still a few beauties left. Spent the rest of the day tearing down the beds to get them ready for winter. Pulling out the posts and stakes. Taking up the netting and the irrigation lines. Digging plants to overwinter in the greenhouse. Next we wait for a hard frost and dig the dahlia tubers. My favorite (NOT) end of season activity. It's always sad to see the season end, although my body is calling for some R&R.

Snapdragon transplants “sing-a-long” with Black Dog Flower Farm. Sing to the tune of 99 bottles of beer on the wall.
9,000 snapdragon seedlings, one tray done, 8,928 seedlings to plant!

My display from the event yesterday at North Shore Event Center. CK Catering held a wonderful tasting of their offerings for weddings and events. The fragrance of my flowers couldn't compete with the wonderful aromas of CK's morsels of heaven.
