Bastrop Student Orchestra preparing for their concert on Saturday night. Hard to believe that the Bastrop Advertiser refuses to publish a nice press release and a picture of these hard-working young players, isn’t it ?!?

The Bastrop Student and Intermediate Orchestras will present a Spring concert on Saturday, May 4th, at the Lumberyard Music Hall located at 1109 Main Street, Bastrop, at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.

The concert will feature original compositions and arrangements for the groups by Bastrop Academy of Music master instructor, Mary Cay Schultz. The student orchestra will begin the program with 3 original compositions by Schultz entitled "La Madrugada," "The New Neighborhood" and "Thunderstorm." "The inspiration for the pieces came from the current season of Spring, and also from the exciting recent growth and expansion in Bastrop County, " says Schultz.

The Student orchestra consists of string players ranging in age from 10 years old to adult, whose skill levels are from beginner to early intermediate. There are 21 players in this student ensemble.

The intermediate orchestra will present Schultz's arrangement of movements 1 and 2 of "Spring" from The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi and an original piece titled "Xetas", inspired by the fictional nation of the same name in the book Sundrakes by John Alexander Schultz, IV. There are 11 members of the intermediate orchestra.

This is the 7th season for the student and intermediate orchestras and both ensembles are open for participation by any players in the community. To find out more about how to become involved, call the Bastrop Academy of Music at 512-321-PLAY(7529).

(P.s. After many’s the long year of doing so, the Bastrop Advertiser refuses to publish this press release...)
