Please pray for the family of this beautiful young lady. Kymber Cherry Nezat was married at Stage 1 Catering during Covid. She was an amazing person that had such a kind heart and I will never forget. While driving the Ambulance yesterday (her dream job) with a patient, she was hit head on by an 18 wheeler. Her husband Brennan Nezat needs your prayers for the loss of his wife and unborn child. God bless them all.

Meet Harvey! Harvey is a 1 year old Standard Dachshund Mix. We pulled him from a local shelter a little over a month ago. Harvey has been adopted and returned twice with them and once with us.

Our Programs Director is a major dachshund lover so she's determined to save him. He appeared to be not dog friendly, not cat friendly and had some resource guarding issues. A board member suggested we put him with a trainer and see if we can work on the resource guarding since he's a puppy and also because he's never shown that side to us or any staff at Jefferson Feed, just to his adopters.

Turns out, we were wrong on the dog and cat friendly part. He's just never been taught manners on a proper introduction with other dogs. He spent the weekend with Hannah, a dog trainer who does board and train locally. To say he had the best weekend ever with a bunch of large dogs (a doberman and some labs) is an understatement. HE LOVES DOGS! He can't get enough play, but he plays rough! So Harvey needs another young playful big dog that can be his best bud. Hannah said he met her community cat and she swatted him once because he was too pushy but didn't seem aggressive with them. He's now in foster for the week with a Jefferson Feed employee since she has younger dogs that can give him that play time he needs. He was cleaning her cats ears but he can be pushy with cats so probably not safe to leave him unattended with cats for a while. Hannah said she would be more than happy to help with any potential adopter and their dog for the introduction.

So we're looking for a home for Harvey that has another big dog that LOVES to play. Applicants must understand that Harvey is a puppy and needs exercise, structure and routine. So if you're not the type of person to wake up and exercise him first thing, he might not be the dog for you. He enjoys walks and he tires quickly from them but still definitely needed multiple times a day. He's a little on the chubby side currently, so an adopter who understands dachshunds can't be overweight because they are long and at risk for back issues. He does have the occasional issue with resource guarding but it's not all the time. He's never done it to Rachel, our Programs Director. But she fed him in a kennel when she took him for sleepovers because she has several dachshunds and rather prevent issues so they have slow feeders and eat in kennels. She uses treats if needed to get something away from him if he shows any sign of aggression and he drops it immediately. But on walks, he picked up every single thing he found on the ground and Rachel removed everything from his mouth no less than 10-15 times a day with zero issues. He just needs to trust that person and know that person is going to be patient with him.

Harvey is UTD on vaccines, neutered, heartworm negative and microchipped. His adoption fee is $67. He's currently in foster so a meet and greet will have to be scheduled for approved applications. Sleepovers are allowed with adoption fee deposit for approved applications. We don't want anyone to rush into this decision because puppies are a lot of work. Yes, they are cute, but its on you to set them up for success!

We'll post videos and more pictures in the comments so you can see all the amazing progress he's made in a few short days! We want to keep his adoption within 4 hours of New Orleans in case for any reason it doesn't work out.
