All 434 fish have been crocheted (thanks to the talented Lori Fischer Freeman) and each and every Beaverton Elementary child will receive their personal fish buddy next week (along with a fish-themed book for each classroom).🐠

Thank you to the parents, grandparents, aunts, retired teachers, and generous community members who have already sponsored a classroom fish bowl! We still have several classrooms to go, so please consider donating any amount of your choice and turning your favorite child into a “Classroom Cupid” for their classmates. Our 19th Century Courting Chair is the focus of our Valentine’s Day window display.♥️

Conceived during 19th century France, the Courting Chair is typically comprised of two chairs facing opposite directions so that the couple could converse without truly touching. This beautiful wicker chair also has what is termed as the "Chaperone Feature" which is an added seat placed in a propeller-like fashion for even more careful observation of the couple.

This particular chair once lived in the Country Shop that was operated in Gladwin years ago. It was owned by Dorothy Juneau who is a relative of the Gil Lyons family. The chair found its way to Joe and Shelly Swanton and then was given to Amy at Flower Scents where it could sprawl out a bit.

All couples are welcome to stop by anytime between now and Valentine’s Day and have a seat (we will even leave the chaperone seat empty as you do😉). We’d love to see how many photos we can gather of local couples enjoying this piece of romantic history.♥️

The funds raised at this event will help financially support the county-wide program which will present titles and scholarships to young women who have applied for the coveted honor to serve as ambassadors for Gladwin County.

Valentine's Day as an elementary school child is about feeling loved and learning how to share that love with others.

It warms our hearts to introduce the second annual
"Classroom Cupid" project which offers students and their parents/grandparents/aunts & uncles an option to demonstrate that the love we give is truly the love we keep.

The 2025 “School of Fish” Classroom Cupid project will be delivered to all Beaverton Elementary classrooms on Friday, February 14th, and will include:

🐠A fish bowl filled with hand-crocheted Valentine fish (one for each child in the classroom to keep for themselves).

🐠A fish- or ocean-themed hardcover book for the class.

🐠A special Valentine recognizing the Classroom Cupid(s) whose loved ones sponsored the “School of Fish” for their classroom.

The boxes are $50 each and we at Sugarbeet Blooms & Bridal have committed to deliver all 19 “School of Fish” Bowls on Valentine's Day. You may choose to sponsor the classroom bowl with a donation of your choice. (If we receive more than the $50 for a specific classroom, the money will be spread to cover costs in other classrooms).

We thank the Beaverton Elementary Administrative team for helping to create another chance for Beaverton kids to do what they do best ~ care for one another.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to those who have already claimed their sponsorships (A retired Beaverton Kindergarten teacher who sponsored her great-grandson’s classroom, and a special aunt who sponsored her niece’s classroom!).♥️♥️
