Teammates are forever. Yesterday was a fantastic day of golf, food and sharing memories. Five of my teammates from the 1982 Golden Bears met for a round of golf and then dinner at Pasquale’s. The highlight of the evening was when our former WV Tech Baseball Coach showed up for dinner, Coach Bob Brown. Coach Brown suffers from Alzheimer’s and honestly couldn’t remember any of our names or faces. But we sat with him for an hour, talking about our time in Montgomery, the many adventures we had playing ball and how those memories mean so much to us today. While Coach couldn’t recall any of it, he didn’t want to leave. He couldn’t understand when it was time to leave and wanted to know if we were coming with him. It was both heart breaking and heart warming at the same time.
Bill Silverstein, David Bodnar, Jeff Davenport and Jimmy Wentz will forever be my Golden Bear brothers and their friendship is as strong today as it was 40 years ago.
