It's the perfect setting for a wedding, retreat, or picnic.
Situated on the property of the Claytor Nature Center, the beautiful Cloverlea farmhouse and memorial gardens offer a stunning panoramic view of the Peaks of Otter and Blue Ridge Mountains.
The leaves are beautiful changing on the mountains and around the grounds! Claytor Nature Center is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but the Farmhouse and upper gardens and Ash lawn area are privately reserved this weekend. Feel free to enjoy the lower gardens and other trails & areas on the Center property. Parking on that side is available in the grassy field to the left of the driveway toward the house; please avoid driving down toward the farmhouse. Thank you!

We are honored to be listed as one of Virginia's must-see gardens in Lynchburg Living current issue! It's true that the Virginia Claytor Memorial Gardens are gorgeous and full of various colors of florals, all meticulously maintained by our staff, and offer arguably the best view of the Peaks of Otter mountains. The reflecting pool makes the experience even more unique; check out the amazing photo from Calhoun Photos and Custom Frames featured in the article!

Finished products of custom pressed floral artwork pieces made from the bouquets and centerpieces from a wedding this fall! Our outreach coordinator, Trish created these as a custom add-on for our wedding packages at Cloverlea. The techniques of arranging, pressing, drying, and mounting the floral specimens are similar to those used at the University of Lynchburg Ramsey-Freer Herbarium. It's a unique way to reduce flower waste for a more sustainable event experience, while making a special keepsake!

On this day we honor the veterans who have bravely served our country with their military service. A. Boyd Claytor, III served in WWII for a pacific tour, and his father-in-law Col. Lloyd Arnold rose in rank during his lifelong career in the U.S. Army. It's been fascinating learning about their stories, and we thank them and all the veterans for their service to the country!
The University of Lynchburg Wind Symphony and Orchestra present Duty, Honor, Country: An American Salute tonight and tomorrow, be sure to check it out, and see many of the military items found at Cloverlea on display!
Part of our ongoing history project includes researching and putting context to the many letters, photos, artifacts, and uniforms that we found in the Cloverlea attic last year. We're working with the University of Lynchburg Department of History to dive in to these attic finds and more branches of the story of the Claytors and the Cloverlea house and land history. Stay tuned to hear more!

The beautiful Cloverlea farmhouse offers a stunning panoramic view of the Peaks of Otter and Blue Ridge Mountains.
Though renovated and added to over the years, the original farmhouse dates back to the late 1780s. Next to the farmhouse stands one of Virginia’s largest white ash trees.
The estate was the personal home for late A. Boyd Claytor III, and in memory of his wife, Virginia Claytor, the Memorial Gardens were planted near the farmhouse. Landscaping includes a variety of plants, flowers and herbs. Through the vision and generosity of Mr. Claytor, the 18th century farm and house were given to the University of Lynchburg to serve as an education and research center for environmental study and to preserve the land for future generations. This is now the Claytor Nature Center, and Cloverlea is situated on the southern side of the property.
Visitors may tour the Memorial Gardens, Rose Garden, and Garden Pool on the southern side of the property.
The 6-bedroom, 3 and a half bath house and grounds are also available for rental for weddings, special events, weekend retreats, and photoshoots.
