The Wreaths Across America ceremony in Bedford will take place on Saturday, December 14 at 11 a.m. at the Greenwood/Oakwood/Fairmont Cemetery on Longwood Avenue. The event is being organized by Peaks of Otter Chapter NSDAR.

Get your tickets soon! Experience Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest by candlelight!

Looking for a unique experience in December? Join us for one (or more) of our upcoming events!

Our annual Holiday Candlelight Tours kick off on Dec. 5th and run for three weekends with tours at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. These evening tours allow visitors to see the house as it would've looked at night and if it had been decorated for the winter season with a focus on Christmas traditions of the time period.

Dec. 10th at 6:00 p.m. we welcome Christine Vrooman of Ankida Ridge Vineyards for Jefferson's Passions Series: "Jefferson & the Virginia Wine Industry", a talk about Jefferson's love of wine, his travels that involved tasting wines, and his attempts to create his own vineyard back in Virginia! This talk is followed by a wine and cheese reception.

The VA250 Commission is holding a regional meeting in our area on Monday, October 28, 2024, 10 AM- 12:30 PM. The meeting will be in Campbell County and all are welcome to attend. The Virginia Department of Historic Resources received $20,000,000 in the 2024-2026 Virginia Biennial Budget to initiate a grant program to support improvements at significant historic sites and history museums in Virginia in anticipation of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and the 1776 United States Declaration of Independence (also known as the nation’s semiquincentennial).

Eligibility is not limited to properties related to the American Revolution. Any historic site or museum that meets all the requirements is eligible to apply.

This webpage has been created to provide communications regarding the administration of this program within the Department of Historic Resources. Please check this webpage frequently as we will be making updates as we launch this new grant program.
