Otherwise, historically, let's start with the feller who is rounding things up. Michael T Owens started playing guitar at the age of three while intrigued by listening to his uncle, Jack Palmer, playing music in his band. During his uncle's band practice, he had a little toy six string Roy Rogers guitar that his uncle put "real" strings on. By the age of five, Mike was performing on stage with his uncle's band at such places as Sunset Park and Gloryland Park as opening act for some of the legends of country music. In elementary school, Mike formed his own "band" playing music from greats such as Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and Carl Smith to name a few. Mike started winning local talent contests. In junior high school, Mike's voice changed to a deeper bass tone, and he was asked to sing in a local popular band. Mike played all through junior high and high school. After graduating from high school, he kept playing the music and songs that he loved. Country music took a turn, and Mike turned to bluegrass music to keep playing "classic country" with acoustic instruments. During his time playing bluegrass, he was asked to be the president of the North Bay Bluegrass Association; and he's glad he did because he had many opportunities meeting some very talented people. Music took another twist with the traditional style of country music "coming back" along with other genres; and with members Mike Owens, Marv Egolf, and Steve Foutty with special guests along the way, Small Town Cowboy plays classic "first wave" country, some bluegrass, some newgrass, and Americana, as well as some classic rock & roll and maybe some originals. Small Town Cowboy performs for bars, restaurants, music and dance clubs, festivals, house parties, community and fraternal organizations (VFWs, American Legions, yacht clubs), casinos, private parties, under lights, on barn doors on cinder blocks, and much more.
