Cut hydrangea update:

The flowers in the white mason jar were cut 2 weeks ago, even before they were blue. The flowers in the green vase were cut one week ago! Both are still perfect.

What’s our secret? Well. We cut early in the morning, I mean very early, when the stems are filled with water. Put the stems in water with floral preservative. We then put our stems in our walk-in cooler. You can put them in your fridge for a day to cool them down. Then take out and enjoy. If they seem to wilt at all during the week, just recut the stems and place in fresh water with preservative.

Try it yourself or come get some bouquets at the Amherst Farmers' Market on Saturday.

Some of you have sent me photos of your incredible bushes this record year. We’d love to see them. Share them in the comments.

Hydrangea. What a year! The purple has NEVER bloomed for us. We planted it at the Little Pond at least 15 years ago.

The white is Annabelle. We love her. She starts green, turns to white, and then back to green, which is perfect for drying.

And the blue… well it’s remarkable. For everyone this year. It’s so blue, it almost hurts your eyes to see it. In all our 25 years here at Little Pond, we have never seen it like this. Only 1 year did it bloom.

We are testing each variety so it will last in the bouquets we’ll have at Amherst Farmers' Market.

See you Saturday.

The flower farm is “pretty in pink” this week. Twenty years ago we planted baby pink magician deutzia bushes so we would have something pretty to mix with our peonies. ❤️ and wow!!
Toby had a bath so he is ready to see you at the Amherst Farmers' Market on Saturday to help you pick out your bouquet.

What could be any better than peonies and lilies? Well actually plenty more. The hits just keep coming every week, all in their own special way. I’m in love with our pink dogwood, so precious. After planting it 6 years ago, we’re finally able to cut it. But just a little. Lots of treats at the Amherst Farmers' Market on Saturday. Don’t miss it.

This was the winter that never was, but it just keeps on going.
The little blue flower is glory of the snow or chionodoxa luciliae. Yes, I learned that in my floriculture classes!! The nice thing about spring flowers is they are resilient. I learned that they actually have a plant anti-freeze in their stems. The daffodils were frozen solid this morning, but have recovered. Truly amazing.
