One of my favorite convos for all time and always, is gear choice and use. Not necessarily the specific gear because everything is so good… But rather WHY people make the choices they do and what works best for the way the photog/videographer operates.

I don’t generally prefer shooting 2 cameras. I used to, then went away from it, but NOW I’ve been loving the FX30 as a companion for stills gigs. As a video first camera it’s PERFECT for grabbing high quality footage on the go, but also (and I hate to say this) the PHOTOS coming out of this camera are better than the FX3and flow nicely with my a7iii.

Quick rundown, the FX3 is a video first full-frame lowlight BEAST in a tiny package. It’s 12MP is bonkers for video (better than FX30) but not stills. The 26.1MP stills of the FX30 make for solid photos.

So let me land theplane: for film or photo gigs, I think the FX30 is my standing sidekick. My permanent be cam and *occasional* solo camera. Some people want one camera that does EVERYTHING.

Some like a couple cameras that only do one thing… I like the middle. I keep a stills camera that also shoots great video, and a video camera which can do great photo. And apparently at my last 2 events, I was really “in the zone” per sidebar conversation. Anywho. That’s me. Ok bye!
