Here's a nurturing daily ritual that can help you both physically and emotionally during pregnancy:

Start your day by placing 1-2 drops of doTERRA Balance on the soles of your feet. Keep it right by your bedside, along with Fractionated Coconut Oil. Add a little coconut oil for dilution, mix it with Balance, and rub your palms together. Inhale deeply three times, allowing yourself to relax. Massage the soles of your feet, and you're ready to take on the day.

Hydration is key! Add a drop of Lemon essential oil to your water in a stainless-steel bottle or glass. It's a refreshing way to kickstart your morning.

If you do choose to diffuse, follow a few guidelines. While your newborn’s eyesight may be poor, their sense of smell is actually quite developed. Take care not to overwhelm it. Your infant’s body is much smaller than yours, and he or she can’t get up and leave the room if he or she doesn’t like the scent of the essential oil you’re diffusing.

Make sure that the room you are diffusing in is large enough or has enough airflow for the oil or diffuser you choose to keep both you and your child comfortable. Don’t put the diffuser right next to you—put it somewhere else in the room and let the aroma gently waft your way.

Consider diffusing for shorter amounts of time and with less essential oil than you normally do. For example, you could use a diffuser with an intermittent setting that automatically diffuses in five-minute intervals. If you usually put several drops of essential oil in your diffuser, just put one or two drops instead.

When using essential oils around your baby, remember to keep it safe.

Dilution Is Key: Always dilute essential oils when using them around babies. A safe dilution is generally one drop of essential oil per one tablespoon of carrier oil.

Gentle Oils: Opt for mild, baby-friendly essential oils like Lavender, Roman Chamomile, or Frankincense. These are known for their soothing properties.

Diffusion Distance: Place the diffuser in a well-ventilated area, away from the baby's crib, to ensure gentle diffusion.

Test First: Before exposing your baby to any new essential oil, perform a patch test on a small area of their skin to check for sensitivity.

Monitor Closely: Keep a close eye on your baby's reactions when using essential oils, and discontinue use if you notice any adverse effects.

Consult a Professional: When in doubt, consult a qualified aromatherapist or healthcare provider for guidance tailored to your baby's needs.

Use this DIY recipe for your post-birth care:

1/4 Cup Witch Hazel.
1/4 Cup Distilled Water
2 tablespoon Aloe Vera gel
4 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
4 drops of Frankincense Essential Oil
Glass Spray Bottles

Instructions:

Step 1: Fill the glass bottle with Witch Hazel (1/4 cup). Make sure to use an alcohol-free, organic witch hazel.

Step 2: Add the pure Aloe Vera Gel and give it a good shake. You can even use the gel from the real plant if you want to.

Step 3: Add the essential oils
Step 4: Add distilled water, close the spray bottle and give it a good shake.
Step 5: Store it in the refrigerator and use it as you like.

You can also use this same recipe to make postpartum pads.

This mixture can also be used with the peri bottle. However, I would skip using essential oils when I’m using them in a peri bottle. Peri bottles are usually plastic, and oils may react with the plastic.

The dreaded sleep loss is real. Some babies sleep more, some less. But what about you, Mama?

A diffuser will be your best friend in the days at home.

Add 1-2 drops of either Serenity®, Adaptiv®, Cypress or Cedarwood in your diffuser before bedtime. Remember, if you have your little one nearby, move the diffuser a bit further away and be more conservative with the amount of drops you add to the diffuser.

Whether you are a first-time mom or a mom of multiple, birth is always something we can’t really predict or plan. However, we can use the power of aroma and essential oils to calm ourselves down during labor and birth.

I remember a midwife adding some drops of Lavender to a tissue paper for me to inhale, and I instantly felt so much more relaxed.

Besides lavender, try using Wild Orange, doTERRA Balance® or doTERRA Adaptiv® in a diffuser or on a tissue paper for some calm nerves.

Geranium

Geranium essential oil may offer relief for breast tenderness during pregnancy due to its potential to balance hormones and soothe discomfort.

How to use Geranium

Take your bottle of fractionated coconut oil or your favorite carrier oil of choice, add a tablespoon worth of carrier oil to your palm and add a drop of Geranium oil to the carrier oil. Gently massage your breasts and enjoy the feeling of relief.

Yesterday, we talked about some oils that we need to stay away from. Today, we want to highlight some hot oils.

Just like some foods can be too spicy during pregnancy, some essential oils can feel strong or "hot" on the skin. Oils like Clove, Cinnamon, and Cassia can give a warm or tingly feeling because they are strong. Just like we avoid spicy foods during pregnancy, it's a good idea to be cautious with these oils. Using only a little bit can help make sure your skin feels comfortable and safe.

These oils are not completely off the radar but need to be used in moderation.

Yesterday, we touched on the importance of diluting more during pregnancy.
What’s the ideal amount of dilution, you may ask?

For children, elderly people, and pregnant women, we advise a dilution of 1% (2% is usually the norm for healthy adults).

This means 5-6 drops of essential oils in 1 fl-oz/29ml of carrier oil.

Hot tip: Use the pump on your fractionated coconut oil bottle, add a pump to your palm, and add a drop of essential oil into it. This will be the proper dilution without you doing the math in your head. (Who can calculate anyway with a pregnancy or postpartum brain ;-) )

First things first: Pregnancy is a very special time, and we need to be more cautious of the use of essential oils and, as a matter of fact, with everything we consume or put on our skin.

The best way to use essential oils during pregnancy is topically and aromatically.

Aromatically

Add a drop or two of essential oil in your palm, cup your hands over your nose and inhale deeply.

Add your favorite essential oil into a diffuser and enjoy the aroma in the room.

Topically

If you want to use essential oils on your skin, be aware of diluting it more. Meaning, add more fractionated coconut oil or your carrier oil of choice.
